Alan BARRASS Obituary
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Alan on July 5, 2024, at Bridgepoint Hospital, Toronto. Survived by his wife, Joyce; and children, Angela (David Grant) and Roderick (Karine). Papi to Lily and Dylan Grant, and Noah and Chloé Barrass. Also survived by brother, Derek (Cathy); sister-in-law, Isabel Barrass; and nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Alan was predeceased by his brothers, David and Richard. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on September 4, 1934, Alan immigrated to Canada in 1959. One of his early jobs was in the Research and Control Lab at Colgate Palmolive, where he met Joyce. With a BA from York University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto, Alan taught at the Toronto District School Board for 25 years in primary grades, and later specialized in a Reading Program at Eglinton Public School. Alan loved sports and games of all kinds, and was active throughout his life playing rugby, golf, tennis, snooker, and more. He also enjoyed travelling, and notably went overland from France to South Africa in the mid-1960's. Alan lived a good full life. As per Alan's wishes, his body was donated for medical education and research purposes at the University of Toronto. Our family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and palliative care staff at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital for the excellent care and attention that Alan received. We will hold a Celebration of Life on Alan's 90th Birthday.
