McBURNEY, Alan
Peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington on Monday, February 26, 2007 at the age of 78. Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret (nee Currie). Loving father of Carol Stuart and her husband Iain of Newmarket, Janice McBurney-Solyom and her husband Ivan of Ardrossan, Alberta, Norma McBurney and her husband Bryan Robertson of Newmarket, predeceased by his son, Hugh (1990). Loving grandfather of Kirstin and Megan Stuart, Thomas Solyom, and Ayden and Laine Robertson. Will be missed by his sister Marjorie Dew of Woodstock. Al graduated from Queen's University in 1952 with a B.A. (Honours) in Biology. He obtained a M.Sc. at Michigan State during summers while teaching high school and was a vice- principal with the Halton Board of Education until his retirement. He will be remembered as a biologist, educator and artist. Al's family will receive relatives, friends and colleagues informally at the family residence on Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, from 4-8 p.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held at East Plains United Church, 375 Plains Road East, Burlington, on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wes and Dorletta Curran Memorial Award, Queen's University Office of Advancement, 99 University Ave. Kingston, ON K7L 3N6 or Community Living Burlington would be sincerely appreciated by the family. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of Al's neighbours and friends for their help and support during his times of need.
