Albert BAKER Obituary



BAKER, ALBERT WILLIAM 'BILL' Passed away on March 6, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer at Queens Square Terrace in Cambridge. In his 90th year Bill left behind his beloved wife Mabel (nee Flower) of 65 years. Much loved by children Ted (Patricia) of Burlington, Wendy (George Evans) of Port Elgin, Lee (Sherry) of Brantford, Daniel (Bev) of East Amherst N.Y. and Lynn (Steve Agnew) of Ottawa. Sadly missed by his eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his two surviving sisters and brother. Bill served in Ferry Command during WWII which was followed by a period in Argentina establishing their national airline. Returning to Canada, he worked for A.V. Roe Canada as the chief flight engineer of the AVRO Jetliner. He later worked for Gar rett Corporation, Fleet Manufacturing, and finished his career as Executive Vice President of McDonnell Douglas in Ottawa. Bill's many achievements, such as induction into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame in 2000 and achieving his commercial pilot licence were chronicled in his memoirs 'The Life and Times of Bill Baker' which he wrote for his family. He retired in Ottawa, moved to Tillsonburg and finally settled in Cambridge. Bill enjoyed stained glass making, wine, reading, gardening, golf and travelling the world. Special thank you to all the staff at Queens Square Terrace for all their care and kindness. A private memorial service took place on Saturday March 8th. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
