Alex MANDEL Obituary

ALEX (SANDOR) MANDEL Alex (Sandor) Mandel passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on July 5, 2023. He was born on July 8, 1925, in Hungary, and was married to his beloved Elizabeth (Zsoka) for 65 years. Arriving in Canada as refugees in 1957, searching for a better life for themselves and their children, in Toronto they found the freedom and the opportunity they sought. They built their lives around family and numerous friends. He is survived by and lives on in the memories of Susan and David, Judy and Andrew, Amber and Kevin, Adam and Monique, Daniel and Taylor, Tracy, Addison and Canaan, and many people who he touched with his constant kindness, gentleness and intelligence. In his long career as a partner at an engineering firm, he designed many public buildings that stand today throughout the city and region. He nurtured and mentored many younger engineers in his firm, imparting both technique and wisdom. In his later years, he lived at Forest Hill Place and L'Chaim, and received special care from Monika, Sheila and Evelyn. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Canada or Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.

Mandel Family: I have been out of town and missed the the announcement of Alex's death. I shall miss him greatly. Much of our professional lives as structural engineers were interwoven and I learned much from him. After retirement we worked together developing software that we wished we had had available in our working days. I often think of those times. I still have the sketches he prepared for the electrical wiring of our cottage. Mary joins me in sending our condolences and deep sympathy. In his memory, we shall made a contribution to the Alzheimer's Society.
