SOYKA, Alex U.
An exceptional man, 90 years old, peacefully, at his home in Montreal on Friday, December 24, 2010, after a brief but intense and courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer; with his family at his side. Much loved husband of Maria Pruszynska Boni and the late Franciszka 'Niusia' nee Mehl (d. July 2010); precious father of Sylvia of Toronto; loving and adored grandpa of Marc-Adam Soyka-Steinman; deeply missed by Paolo Boni(Vanessa) of Toronto and Andrea Boni (Aliete) of Milan; cherished mentor and treasured friend to many. Born in Poland in 1920, he was the oldest of three and was predeceased by his mother Civia, brother Mayer and his 14-year old sister Sabina who died in the Holocaust and subsequently by his father, Abram Sojka who died in Belgium. He had amazing experiences in several armies during WWII, then settled in Belgium where he thrived until 1951 when he brought his family to the best country in the world. Here in Montreal he established Sotal Ltd. and ran it for 59 years (Oct. 1951 - Oct 2010). He was a great traveller, a wonderful raconteur, an avid skier until and including winter 2010, a lover of music, an admirer of beautiful women and a lover of life! He was also a constant philanthropist, and donations, if desired, will be gratefully appreciated by the family and Canadian Friends of Hebrew University (514)-932-2133. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Wednesday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. Burial at the Temple Emanu-El- Beth Sholom Congregation Section, Mount Royal Cemetery, 1297 ch. de la Forêt, Outremont. Shiva at Alex's home in Montreal from 2:00 pm, Wed., Thurs. and Friday until sundown and at Sylvia's home in Toronto, Sunday and Monday.
