ALEXANDER HIGHET Obituary
Alexander "Sandy" Highet, 89, of Westmount, Montreal, died on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in the presence of his beloved wife, Francoise Jargaille. Sandy was born September 7, 1935, in Kilmarnock, Scotland, the son of Margaret (Kelly) and James Highet. Sandy immigrated to Canada in 1960 after performing his National Service in the Royal Artillery (also known as "The Gunners"), and went to work for the TD Bank in Toronto. He married the late Anne Richardson in 1961 in Kilmarnock, and together they raised a family in Canada, with Sandy working for then IDB, FBDB, the current BDC (Business Development Bank), at several postings in the Maritimes. Sandy retired as Vice President from FBDB in Montreal in 1996. Following his retirement, he did consulting work for Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, was active in the Rotary Club in Westmount and studied for a BA from St. Thomas More Institute. He married Francoise Jargaille of Montreal in 2012, and together they enjoyed a happy marriage, living in Westmount, vacationing in the Eastern Townships and travelling. Sandy enjoyed playing the violin, especially Scottish fiddle music, for a time playing with friends in pubs in Montreal. Among his many pleasures and achievements, he enjoyed sailing with his family, Rugby – playing as a youth, a fan of Rugby Union later in life – and notably recited from memory Robert Burns' Address to a Haggis at St. Andrew's Day festivities and on CBC Radio. Sandy is survived by his wife, Francoise; his children, Alistair (Jerelyn Johnson), Iain, and Fiona (Andrew Scott); two grandchildren, Stirling and Alistair; as well as several nieces and nephews. In honour of Sandy's wishes, services and burial will be held in private.
