Alex, offered me safety at his studio and in the form of a large wooden statue we named "Igor" many many decades ago when I was little more than a frightened, fragile and abused child. He is one of only a few in my life of whom I would've given my life for; his caring gesture was that vital to my entire life going forward. I last saw him a few years ago at the 1313 Gallery where he was showing some of his work, and I waited for him to leave and we took the public transit together. He is forever in my heart. Toronto, ON.

I first met Alex when I worked at the then North York Library system at the Yorkwoods branch. He was a wonderful librarian, co-worker, union supporter and gave me much encouragement to stay with my art studies. I stayed friends with Alex, visited with him at his studios, and he and Gerrard visited mine. He remained courageous and determined to live the best life through out his
illness, and delighted us with his beautiful artwork. One of the most beautiful people I was blessed to have as a friend.

Alex was a fine artist, a good friend to many, and a man who expressed a tenacious will to live through major health difficulties. Throughout the years of his personal health struggles, he maintained friendships, pushed himself to go out and remain active, and so often used his art to advance his commitment to social justice. Alex was a special person, and he will be very much missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

My Uncle Alex was always very kind and generous to me. He never complained and was positive and upbeat, despite his years of suffering through illness. I miss him dearly. I love you Uncle Alex. Your niece, Sasha

Alex was such a good and close friend for many years, one of the gentlest least judgmental people I have known , an indomitable spirit and unstoppable artist . I miss you terribly my dear dear friend!

My uncle was a sweet man who stayed positive through his many health challenges. He loved his friends and family and persevered in creating beauty and art. He is so missed.
