Alexander MACKENZIE Obituary

MACKENZIE, Alexander William (Alex)
Suddenly, on August 20, 1999, at home, in his 72nd year, beside his beloved wife Barbara. Alex was the loving father of Bill and wife Jane of Toronto, Maggie Anderson and husband Stephen of Gananoque and Sandy of Toronto. He will be fondly remembered as the ever playful 'Ackie' by his grandchildren, Julia and Allison Mackenzie and Taylor and Mackenzie Anderson. Alex is survived by his sister Sally Winslow and her husband Paul. Alex was the son of Margery Northey and William Kirkland Mackenzie of Toronto, and greatgrandson of railway baron Sir William Mackenzie. Alex attended McGill University and spent many years in the investment business as a partner with McDougall and Christmas in Montreal. After relocating the family to Toronto, Alex co-founded Bramaco Marketing where he worked until his retirement. Throughout his life, Alex was an enthusiastic boater, which brought him to the 1000 Islands and ultimately to purchase Bratt Island. He and Barbara divided their time between Bratt Island and Naples, Florida. Alex was a member of the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club in Montreal, the Rosedale Golf Club in Toronto, the Audubon Country Club in Naples, Florida, and the Grenadier Island Country Club in the 1000 Islands, where as a result of his enthusiasm for the game of croquet, he developed a Youth Croquet Program. He was a founding member of the Ivy Lea Yacht Club. Memorial service to be held at Christ Church, Gananoque, Ontario, on Wednesday, August 25, 1999, at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of his life to be held in Toronto at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Kingston General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the James Reid Funeral Home, Kingston, Ontario. (613) 544-3411.
