Alexandra 'Lexi' Margaret Baillie (nee Dover)
October 1, 1946 - January 23, 2016After a seven month struggle with cancer, Lexi died surrounded by love in the Palliative Care wing of Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto. Lexi's last months were defined by her grit, grace and gratitude. And the darkness of the cancer journey was lightened, at least a little, by beautiful moments replete with laughter, joy and family.
Predeceased by her parents, Joan and Dean Dover and her former husband, Duncan Baillie. She leaves her grieving family: her daughter, Bridget Belton (Mark, Maya and Noa Balaban) and her siblings, Dean Macdonald Dover (Cailey and James Dover) and Pegi Dover (Philip, Beth, Alexander and Chris Jessup), as well as cousins from the Macdonald, McConnell and Dover clans. She will be missed by dear friends, including Tony and Beth, Donna, Len and Elsie, Thomas and her beloved dog, Frannie. She also leaves her stepsons and their families (Paul, Peter and Rob Baillie).
Lexi was one of the first female bond traders on Bay Street, excelling in the field and becoming known for her trading skills, as well as her sharp wit and intellect. She was an amazing cook and extraordinary gardener, coaxing beauty from the most reluctant bulbs and seedlings. She treasured her time with family, especially at Go Home Lake and Devils Glen.
We are very grateful for the wonderful care that Lexi received in London from Drs. Jordan, Dingle and Uremco and their staff. In Toronto, the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care provided outstanding care and in particular we would like to thank Joan, Dr. Kevin and Alexi. And we thank the wonderful team of nurses and doctors at Bridgepoint for making these last weeks the best they could be.
A celebration of Lexi's life will take place on Saturday, January 30th, at St. Matthew's Clubhouse, located at 450 Broadview Avenue, Toronto (home of the Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation). Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the service commencing at 3:00 p.m. A gathering will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lexi's memory may be made to Project Canoe, PO Box 40022. Whitby, Ontario L1R 0M5
