ALFRED JOHN PICK Died peacefully March 2, 2010 at the Monfort Hospital in Ottawa at the age of 94. Career diplomat for Canada. M.A. '37 and B.C.L. '40 at McGill and studies at Sciences Politiques in Paris. Joined the Department of External Affairs 1940 and was posted to Newfoundland, then a colony of Great Britain. After Pearl Harbour he crossed the Pa cific to join the High Commission in Canber ra. In 1946 he married Patricia Ross, deceased, of Sydney Australia. Po sted to South Africa then to India at the time of its independence. Served in Italy 1952-1955. Appointed Canadian Ambassador to Peru and Bolivia 1958-1962, Tunisia and Libya 1966-1999, the Netherlands 1969-1972, and the Organization of American States 1972-1975. The oldest serving member of the Retired Heads of Mission. Loving father of Lawrence, wife Anita, (Toronto), Frances and partner Ken (Ottawa) and Paula and partner Laura (Kamloops, British Columbia). Devoted grandfather of Dean and his wife Sara (Vancouver), Vicki (Toronto), Alan and Louise (Montreal). Map Collector, writer, maker of maple syrup, cottager at Bobs Lake, tennis player, story teller, conservationist and man of many interests. His life was long and well lived. He will be missed by all.
