Amy SALMON Obituary
SALMON, (nee FORMAN) Amy Margaret
On June 30, 2000, Amy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her beloved Balsam Lake farm property where she was born 66 years ago. Amy succumbed to a sudden reoccurrence of cancer. Amy graduated from Lindsay Collegiate in 1952 and remained close friends with her former classmates. She graduated as a Chemical Engineer from the University of Toronto in 1958 when women in engineering were uncommon. She always maintained she was an engineer who happened to be a woman. At the start of her career she moved to London England to work as an engineer. There she met and married her husband Keith Salmon in 1962, returning to Canada in 1965 to give birth to her daughter Penelope in Sarnia, Ontario. She returned to Sarnia again in 1969 to give birth to her son John Jasper (J.J.). She moved to Don Mills in 1974, which became her principal residence for the remainder of her life. As her husband's career became international, Amy became a highly valued member of his business development team. She visited and worked all over the world: North and South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, India, China, Japan and Australia. Amy, an accomplished photographer, was able to visit and record many of the worlds famous places, but for her, none compared to her beloved Balsam Lake. Amy was proud that both her children went on to get engineering degrees from the University of Waterloo, and that she was able to present them with their engineering Iron Rings. Her children took spouses (Penny, Alan Catalano and J.J., Kim Harbaruk), whom she both admired and loved. She leaves one grandchild Emily Catalano who became her delight in her last years. Amy was the family historian, tracing most of the family lines back to their English and Scottish roots. In recent years she located and visited the various villages and hamlets where her ancestors lived before they embarked to settle in Canada in the early 1800's. Amy led a very full and happy life. She is survived by her devoted husband Keith, her loving children, brother David Forman, sister Joyce Keillor, nieces Lawrie and Diane and nephew Gary, and many cousins and close friends. She went so quickly and will be sorely missed by all. She was the central core of her loving family. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 5 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Thursday, July 6 from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Stoddart Funeral Home, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay (705) 324-3205. A non-denominational service to celebrate Amy's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 7 at Queen Street United Church, 35 Lindsay Street North, Lindsay. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Amy to the Toronto-Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre.
