André Valiquette Obituary
André Valiquette, c.r., KC (November 20, 1933 - January 12, 2026) Born and raised in Montreal, André attended le Collège Stanislas and the law faculty of l'Université de Montréal. Admitted to the Bar in 1955, he became a corporate lawyer, specialising early in mining law. A natural athlete, he excelled in racquet sports, especially tennis, and was a championship golfer most of his life. When he was seventeen or so, he won a friendly tennis match against Valéry Giscard d'Estaing who, at the time, was teaching a semester at Collège Stanislas. Losing a lung in May 2001 impaired neither his sporting activities nor his outstanding skills. To the astonishment of all, especially one of his surgeons, he won the Mount Bruno Country Club Men's Senior Golf Championship barely a few months after the operation! He is mourned deeply by his wife of forty years, Gillian Cargill; Belle (pictured); his daughter, Claire (Luc, Michaël); and a son, Luc (Gill); as well as countless friends. There will be no traditional funeral, but in our garden when it is in bloom in spring, his favourite spot for relaxation and the enjoyment of life, will be held an intimate Celebration of a Life of authentic cheer, caring, and goodwill towards all. Rest In Peace, mon amour. You will be long, widely, and sorely missed.
