CHUTE, Andrew L., M.D., Ph.D., F.R.C.P.(C), O.B.E., Dean Emeritus, University of Toronto, former Professor of Pediatrics and Physican in Chief at the Hospital for Sick Children
Peacefully at home, Tuesday, February 24, 1998. Beloved husband of Helen Evans Chute (nee Reid). Father of Judy Redfield and husband Alden, and Douglas L. Chute and wife Peggy, and grandfather of Laura Redfield-Jacobs, Edmund Redfield, Jesse Chute, Deborah Chute and Andrew Chute. He was loved by family and friends and will be missed. Born in India to missionary parents May 31, 1909, Dr. Chute's distinguished medical career included service in the Canadian Army Medical Corps., Officer Commanding Canadian Research Laboratory No. 1. In 1966, he was made Dean of Faculty of Medicine of the University and on his retirement in 1973 was appointed Dean Emeritus. He was the first president of the Canadian Diabetes Association and for twenty-nine years was medical director of the camp for children with diabetes, Ilahee Lodge. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr. Andrew "Laurie" Chute will be held in the Chapel of Rod Abrams Funeral Home, 150 Queen St. South, Tottenham (905) 936-3477, on Sunday, March 1, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetic Research, Hospital for Sick Children Foundation.
