ANDREW OLDING HEBB Died on January 3, 2005, at his home in Toronto, after a short illness. Born in Chester, Nova Scotia to Drs. Arthur and Clara Olding Hebb, he was in his 100th year. Beloved husband of Ruth Dingman Hebb, last summer they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in Nova Scotia. Besides his wife Ruth, he is survived by their four children and their spouses, Laurence (Margaret McIntosh), Marian (Otto Siebenmann), Gordon (Mary Ellen Donovan), and Kathleen (Thomas Marrie), and by 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A private remembrance service was held on January 7. A Dalhousie law graduate, Andrew Hebb's career was initially devoted to journalism, reporting for daily newspapers in Halifax, Montreal and Toronto and publishing the weekly newspaper in Newmarket, Ontario. He then edited The Rural Co-operator, a newspaper for Ontario farmers, and he was involved in co-operatives and credit unions. In 1949 he was the founding chief executive of what became Cooperators Insurance Association (Guelph). He retired in 1970-71 at age 65, and in 1993 his book entitled Management by Majority about the early days of co-operative insurance in Ontario was published. Later the insurance company joined western and other co-operatives across Canada to become 'The Cooperators'.
