Andrew SKERLEC Obituary

ANDY SKERLEC 1942-2022 One of life's one-of-a-kind has left us. Andrew Francis Skerlec died suddenly on April 8, at his home in Toronto, not long after his 80th birthday. Loved and cherished by his family and many friends, Andy lived a charmed life. A life of unique accomplishment and wild adventures, from mining gold in the frozen Yukon to smuggling a bus to orphans in Guatemala. He was a collector of cars, boats, cats and ... people of all ages and backgrounds, people he befriended over a lifetime. He nurtured those friendships with frank talks and vigorous debate. Indeed, the more delicate or controversial the subject the better, as Andy's sharp mind would happily pull your arguments apart and leave you shaking your head. He somehow knew a lot about almost everything (with a few gaps in English Literature) and he used that knowledge to provide practical help and advice to a wide circle of admirers. A proud Hungarian, coffee lover, solver of all problems and true smoker's rights advocate, Andy was also a devoted napper from an early age. His death has wrenched the hearts of his beloved sons, stepchildren, their spouses, many grandchildren and his favourite playmate, Rowan. We all will dearly miss his gruff, combative yet truly loving, generous spirit. Sail on, Andy.

Condolences to Andy's family, son and Rowan. I worked for his father in Fiji in the 1980's and when things took a turn Andy helped me though a difficult time. I then managed his finances in Fiji after that. Andy still has interests here so if I can be of assistance I can be contacted at [email protected] or phone +679 9920940 He was different but in a good way, I liked and respected him..ni sa moce Andy Godfrey Scoullar

Sixty years of memories mean there are too many to count but all of them call to mind huge generosity of spirit, excellent food and drink and - always - FUN.
With love to you, Rowan - you were the perfect foil for Andy. xxx Susie

Andy, you were a true gentleman, always there willing to talk. You were a character with a huge heart. You will be missed, but not forgotten.

Dear Rowan and Family: I just learned of Andy's passing. Whether spending time working on issues at 65 Scadding, or enjoying spending time together up at the Ojibway Club, I came to love Andy and Rowan. He had a big heart and was endlessly interesting and interested. My heartfelt condolences to you. From what I observed, he lived life full-out. I will miss this wonderfully unique being. Barbara
