Angus KINNEAR Obituary

ANGUS JAMES KINNEAR November 19, 1943 - October 28, 2021 Following a full and exciting life in commercial aviation and travel, Angus Kinnear passed away in Santo Domingo, DR, on October 28, 2021, at the age of 77. He will be greatly missed by his sister, Elizabeth and her husband, Mike Harper; his niece, Clare; his nephew, Paul and their respective families; as well as cousins, friends, and colleagues around the world. Angus (affectionately known as AJK) was born in Kingston Vale, London, UK, on November 19, 1943, to Clara and William Kinnear. His early childhood was spent visiting his mother's family in Somerset and his father's family in Arbroath, Scotland. His father's stories of travelling the world while in the British Navy gave Angus his lifelong passion to explore and travel. He attended Brooklands College in Weybridge and began his career with Cunard. He transferred to Cunard's new airline, British Eagle International Airlines. Angus decided to emigrate to Canada where he joined Donaldson International Airways in Toronto. Donaldson transferred him to London where he was responsible for overseas operations, including challenging positions in Uganda and Iraq. He later became Managing Director at Gatwick Handling. In 1986, he was part of the team that founded UK charter operator Air 2000. In 1988, Angus returned to Toronto, co-founded Canada 3000 Airlines and for 14 years guided the airline through its expansion around the world. Following his role as President of USA 3000 Airlines in Philadelphia, he retired at 65 to enjoy life in Santo Domingo. Throughout a career that spanned 45 years, Angus was a formidable leader and innovator. He had a brilliant mind, a quick wit, and was always approachable. His contributions to travel and the airline industry in Canada and abroad were immeasurable. Angus was honoured with many aviation and travel awards, but attributed them to his team's efforts, never viewing himself more important than anyone else. He effortlessly met with international business leaders, politicians and royalty, but he could also be seen at Pearson Airport assisting with Canada 3000's check-in. There will be no service. If desired, a donation may be made in his memory to a charitable organization of choice in line with Angus's values.

A very delayed comment on the sad news of Angus' death. It is June 2025. I worked with him at British Eagle from 1965 to 1967 at Heathrow and found his sense of humour quirky and delightful. We lost touch after both of us left for broader horizons.

My (tardy) condolences to all family members.

Is this the same man who penned the biography of the great Chinese evangelist Watchman Nee. If so, I would like to get a copy. Any suggestions please?

Terribly sad to see that Angus has passed away. I stayed with him many times at Redhill, Surrey. Sailed with him from Shoreham and have a lovely photograph of him with my father sailing off Cowes. A wonderful gentleman with a huge sense of humour. A very fair and decent person, I lost touch very sadly but I will never forget him. He spoke often of his family. Rest In Peace dear Angus. I worked at Canada 3000 for three years, almost from the start of the airline. Angus was a lovely person, his obituary is so true, he cared for the staff, no one was overlooked in any way, he was always approachable and communicative. RIP Angus, you've earned your rest.

I have often Googled to see if I could find contact information for Angus so I could thank him for the experience of working for him. It was so shocking and sad to Google his name again this morning and find he had passed. What a brilliant, funny, eccentric, generous and wonderful man. I loved working for him. In reading all of the news articles about him I find he had an even richer life than I knew. I´m glad he had 12 years of retirement to simply enjoy life. I´ll always be grateful for my time at Canada 3000 with Angus.

On behalf of the family we would like to say how overwhelmed we are reading your kind and generous comments regarding Angus. He was a wonderful brother to me and a kind and generous uncle to my children and all the family. He loved Canada and spent some of the happiest days of his life there. Thank you all.

AJK was many things to many people. For those of us who were part of his Canada 3000 team, he was our leader, our mentor and our friend. So grateful and proud to have worked with him and for him from the start up of Canada 3000 in 1988 until the very sad end in 2001. Angus, you were the wind beneath our wings.
Rest In Peace
