Ann EDDIE Obituary

ANN EDDIE 1942 - 2021 With her husband, Ross and son, Charles at her bedside, Ann died peacefully on July 19, 2021, after a very short illness. Predeceased by her brother, John Goodison, she is survived by her sister, Jane Frey; and three wonderful grandchildren, Keegan, William, and Peyton. Ann held a Bachelor of General Arts and a Bachelor of Library Science and a Master of Library Science. Her career led from the Mississauga Library to the Scarborough Public Library and then to the Toronto Public Library. Twenty years ago, she started enjoying early retirement, sailing at Bluffers Park Yacht Club, playing saxophone with the Scarborough Concert Band and the Toronto New Horizons Band, and following her favourite jazz artists. A celebration of Ann's life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Scarborough Health Network or the Canadian Cancer Society.

I am very sad to hear this news. Ann hired me into my first professional job at Scarborough Public Library, and I worked with her for many years there and, after amalgamation, at the Toronto Public Library system. I was always inspired by her leadership and the excellent guidance and support she offered to me throughout my career, and awed by her many accomplishments and interests outside the library. I send my sincere condolences to her family and friends.

I first met Ann through a mutual friend, Greg Eskins (Long & McQuade). He was her jazz sax teacher. I knew right away she was a committed musician. Little did I know she would also come to join the New Horizons Band (which I conducted) at the time - what an asset she was. She had nothing but positive things to say to everyone she interacted with. She had a great smile - it came right up into her eyes, but she took her music making very seriously and loved taking part in all our concerts - including playing for a gym full of middle school students at Christmas time. I will miss this wonderful woman.

We want to add another photo of Ann with two of her younger fans at our sailing club. Both photos were taken at our annual Christmas party in 2008.

We were both shocked and saddened to hear of Ann’s passing. She has always been there as Ross’ inseparable partner in life, music, and sailing. Ross and Ann were a rare husband/wife racing crew at Bluffers Park Yacht Club. They always sailed together, and both have played a big part in our club.

Ann also shared with Ross a love for music, and both were valuable members of our Ancient Mariners rock and blues band at BPYC.

We will miss Ann and her wonderful smile. Our condolences go out to Ross and his family at this very sad time.

I had the great pleasure to play Tenor Sax alongside Ann at New Horizons and I learned so much from her. I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing and I shall miss her friendly tips on how to improve and, of course, her ready smile.

We still cannot believe that Ann is no longer next door, after 35 years. Ann was always smiling and radiant, whether walking with Ross and a beloved Golden Retriever (Ben, Watson, Hampton), delivering the CCRA news, gardening, practicing her sax or heading out for Yoga class in the morning. Her champagne and OJ, and her annual list of favourite books and films sent after Christmas, marked the start of a new year, for over three decades. Ann treated our toddlers to specially made candy apples at Halloween, the first year we moved here - they were thrilled! These small acts of kindness captured Ann’s thoughtfulness and generosity.
We send our love to Ross, and to Hampton.

To Ross and Family:
I have known my friend Ann for many years.
As a sailor, musician and professional administrator and librarian with the Toronto Public Library system, Ann had skills which were many and diverse- abundantly apparent to all who knew her.
Ann's warm personality was open, frank and genuine; it was a pleasure to engage her in conversation on all manner of topics.
I and my daughter Carol send our condolences to Ross and his family at this time; our thoughts are with you.
...with affection,
Grace and Carol Morrison.

I would like to add my condolences to Ann's family and friends. I worked for Ann for many, many years in both Scarborough and Toronto. She had a wonderful smile and laugh, but was a stickler for detail. I was able to thrive in the library systems in many ways thanks to her. Her wide variety of interests, passions and commitment to library service combined to make her an inspiring woman.

Ross and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of the conversations we had during band class. We would chat about everything from music to grandchildren, supporting each other when we played a wrong note...followed by her huge smile when we got it right. Always keen on learning and sharing, her presence enriched the lives of everyone who knew her. I am honoured to have been one of those people.

Dear Ross and family. I am so sorry to hear of Ann's passing. She was a wonderful 'boss', mentor, supporter and someone I respected and cared about. She hired me out of university as a very green pre library school candidate. She was a mentor and more. Throughout my career at the Mississauga Library System , when confronted with a problem, I would always think 'What would Ann do'. And then do it! Long after she left for greener fields she continued to be a role model for me . Ann gave me many opportunities to grow, to make mistakes and to learn. I was and am thankful for knowing her.
My very deep condolences ,

Ann was my mentor and role model at the Mississauga Library System. She showed me trust, encouragement and kindness when I was a brand new librarian, and a young person just graduated into the work force. Throughout my career if I had a problem to solve at work I would always think ' What would Ann do?" I will continue to think of Ann with gratitude for her and her friendship and very positive influence on my professional life. My heart goes out to Ross and her family. Jo-Anne

It is with great respect for Ann that I offer my condolences to Ann's family and friends. I was hired by Ann in 1996 and worked for her until her retirement six years later, at both the Scarborough and Toronto Public Library systems. Ann was very generous in providing me with many work opportunities and in giving me much help in my work. I enjoyed working for Ann. I also was very happy that we kept in touch and met for lunch about once a year after we stopped working together. Talking with Ann was always insightful and entertaining.

Ross, Charles and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember being Ann's passenger as she drove us to Victory ice racing in an orange Toyota. What a great driver she was that day!

Ann is a remarkable woman that I had the honour of knowing. I have known Ann for years, but really got to know her in the last 1.5 years as one of my yoga students online. I will miss beautiful smile and her gentle ways.
