ANN CAROLYN McCULLAGH HOGARTH

ANN CAROLYN McCULLAGH HOGARTH obituary

ANN HOGARTH Obituary

March 5, 1937 – July 7, 2025 With deep love and gratitude for all that she has given us, Ann's family is sad to share that, having lived a full and fulfilling life, Ann left us on July 7, 2025, after complications from a fall. Left behind to cherish the memories and live by her example is her loving, tight-knit family. She was the devoted mother of Michael Hogarth (Lynn) and Dinnie Baker (Jim); and was an engaged, involved Nannie to George (Madeleine), Sean (Tasha) and Griffin (Sarah) Hogarth and Michael (Cassandra) and Stuart (Melinda) Baker. A particular joy was becoming a great-grandmother to Cal Hogarth, whom she got to snuggle with in 2024. She was predeceased by her adoring father, C. George McCullagh; her mother, Phyllis Laidlaw Drew; and big-hearted brothers, Robert "Bob" John McCullagh and George William McCullagh; as well as the father of her children, G. Malcolm Hogarth; and her caring partner, Peter D.G. Harris. Members of her affectionate extended family, with strong Irish roots, were touchstones throughout her life, led by the example of four nurturing and wise McCullagh aunts. She knew how blessed she was to be especially loved, included and cared for by a large band of relatives and cousins, especially Cynthia McCall. Ann's labrador retrievers were cherished companions throughout her life and she made friends with every dog she ever met. Born in Toronto, Ann attended Havergal College, making lifelong friends and honing her leadership skills as a prefect, after which she set off for UBC. While growing up in the country, Ann spent hours riding her horses and participating in the Pony Club – again making enduring friendships. In her youth, Ann enjoyed spending summers and winters in Ste. Agathe, Quebec, having many adventures with her brothers, cousins and companions. Her love of skiing and lakes continued as an adult, as she enjoyed activities, family and friends at Osler Bluff Ski Club and Lake Muskoka. Ann was unfailingly optimistic and courageous and looked at life as a glass half full. She let her actions demonstrate what she stood for. Her mantra was "seize the moment," and that she did in spades. She enjoyed many special trips with family and friends to Europe and the sunny South, but her favourite experiences were with her five grandsons, in the mountains out West, at "Nannie Camp" in Toronto, and camping over many summers at Fry Creek in the Kootenays. She was always a good sport, sleeping on the ground in a tent in her late 70s! Besides her children and grandsons, Ann's legacy will surely be the treasured friendships she nurtured over her lifetime and the memories she created. She had a fun, rewarding career as a wedding and party planner, effortlessly blending professionalism and friendships. Whether skiing, gardening, hosting dinners or playing bridge, Ann naturally made friends of all ages and cherished the time with them, young or old. "From those to whom much is given, much is also expected" were words she lived by. Many community charities benefited from Ann's leadership, creativity and passion. She was generous with her time, talent and treasure, and was an avid leader, champion and volunteer at Havergal College, the National Ballet of Canada, the Clarke Institute Foundation's (now CAMH) Courage to Come Back Dinner, the Garden Club, Junior League and many other organizations. Given that Ann was a frequent flier at many hospitals to keep her aching body mobile, she relied on the support of a large and compassionate team whose members each became close friends. The family calls all of them the A Team (Annie's Team). You know who you are, and the family is grateful for everything you have done for Ann. Donations are welcome in Ann's memory to UHNFoundation.ca, Foundation.Sunnybrook.ca, National.Ballet.ca, ScottMission.com or a Charity of Your Choice. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather for a service of celebration of Ann's life in the early autumn.

Dearest Dinny, I am so sorry for your loss. I loved Annie. She was the greatest. I loved her intelligence, her wit and just being with her. Lots of giggles were guaranteed. She is a legend. Our "sargent major". Sending you all my love and would like to attend her thanksgiving of life in the fall. xo

Dear Dinnie and Jim;

I just this moment found out that your mom has gone to God. Please accept my deepest condolences. I have some wonderfully fond memories of times past especially catering your wedding and that great week you all spent with John and me in Cape Breton. We were tickled pink that you had chosen to spend a week with us. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

We met Annie when she came to camp with Michael & his family at Fry Creek on Kootenay Lake. She was a delightful and spunky lady. I recall loaning her a mattress on more than one occasion because I wanted her to be comfortable sleeping on the ground. To Michael & Dinnie - we're so sorry for your loss - she will be remembered with fondness always!
