Anne LOWDEN Obituary

ANNE TAYLOR LOWDEN October 28, 1932 - December 23, 2022 Anne died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born, raised and lived nearly all her life in Toronto. Sports were her passion, even as a young girl. She was president of the Girls' Athletic Association at North Toronto C.I. and went on to study physical education at the University of Toronto. After graduating, she travelled to Europe where she met the love of her life, Sandy, and together they began a lifelong passion for travel and many other adventures. Anne and Sandy married in 1956. In 1957, while living in Toronto, their son John was born, followed closely by Eleanor (Nor). Jane was born in Montreal during a four-year stint while Sandy attended McGill University. Tom arrived shortly after they returned to Toronto. Anne adored her four kids and always encouraged them to take part in sports. Sundays were family days. In winter, there was cross country skiing, and summers the family played tennis or golf. She was an active parent, serving on the Board of the Whitney School Parent Teachers Association, as well working with the Women's Auxiliary of the Hospital for Sick Children. For two years, she was Chair of the Women's Committee of the Rosedale Park Mayfair. Anne's passion was tennis. As soon as her kids started school, she would play tennis at every opportunity. For several years she played on the Rosedale Park Women's Tennis Team. In 1977, Sandy's work took the family to San Diego. She declared that she was determined to play tennis for as long as her fellow members at the Rec Center in La Jolla. Most of them were still playing in their 80s. And she did just that. Anne played tennis until she was 88. In Toronto, she played at Mayfair Tennis Club and for the Granite Club, as well as in the Intercounty Women's League. During winters in La Jolla, she played at the Beach and Tennis Club, as well as in a North County League. She loved being social, and when Sandy moved them to Regina, SK (1993-1998), Anne found a group of women who played tennis, as well as golf and bridge. In 1996, they purchased a second home in San Diego and spent winters in California playing bridge, tennis, and golf. When Sandy retired in 2005, they began playing more golf at the Toronto Hunt Club and several courses in the San Diego area. In recent years Anne had also discovered a love for pickle ball and when Covid hit, she focused in on honing her bridge skills online. When not playing tennis, golf, pickle ball or bridge, Anne was travelling the world or researching her next travel destination. In 50 years of travel, she visited 107 countries and all seven continents. Anne is survived by her husband of 66 years, Sandy; her four children, John (Jennifer), Eleanor, Jane (Mike Mooy), and Tom (Karen); her eleven grandchildren, Tom (Jill), Sarah (Jeff), Trevor, Taylor (Lisa), Spencer, Charlotte (Mac), Jenna (Harrison), Beth (Stephen), Emily (Nick), Ryan and Michael; and her six (nearly seven) great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Jack, Lucy, Harty, Ozzie, and Brigid. The family would like to thank her many caregivers, Dr. Eva Bain, as well as Dr. Marnie Howe, Dr. Melissa Melnitzer and the many PSW's and support staff at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. A celebration of life will be held on January 6, 2023 at Rosedale Golf Club from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. Donations in her honour may be made to The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Sinai Health System, 60 Murray Street, 4th Floor, Box 13. Toronto, ON M5T 3L9. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
