Anne TOUGH Obituary

ANNE ELEANOR TOUGH (Wood) September 17, 1936 - February 28, 2021 Anne was born in Toronto to Marjorie (Beer) and Roy Wood. She is survived by her children Susan (Russell) of Carleton Place, Ontario and Paul (Paula) and her grandsons Ellington and Charles of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her siblings John, Margaret, and Eleanor along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Anne was a proud 1958 graduate of Victoria College at the University of Toronto. She taught at the Institute of Child Study (ICS) in Toronto from 1976 until her retirement in 1996; she was a beloved presence in the classroom and part of a close and devoted circle of teaching colleagues. In her later years, Anne resided at Christie Gardens, where she made many wonderful friends. Throughout her life, her extended family was always on her mind and in her heart; she was a thoughtful and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. She will be dearly missed and warmly remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ecojustice or the Christie Gardens Foundation.

So sorry to just hear about Anne’s passing. She was a great friend to my mother when she was also at Christie Gardens and helped me tremendously with my mother’s affairs. She will be missed.

We last visited Anne at Christie Gardens before the pandemic and she had toy cars for my son to play with. We sat with her and she was engaged and lovely as ever: hyper intelligent, engaged with the world, full of common sense, compassion and caring. That's the way we'll remember her. Our condolences to Susan and Paul and the whole family. She will be missed.

Anne was my grade 1 teacher in 1990. She welcomed all of us into her classroom and made us feel safe and curious. I will always remember her kind heart. I am forever inspired by her gentle teaching and patience.
