Annette NAIMAN Obituary

With a splash of bright lipstick accenting her sparkling smile, Annette Naiman personified the motto: "LIVE * LOVE * LAUGH." Over 96 years, she never lost her wicked sense of humour; her ability to connect with family, friends and strangers; her remarkable resolve in the face of adversity; her gift for creating beauty and finding joy in each and every day. The spirited and stylish matriarch of our family was a pillar of strength and positivity who, in classic form, passed away on the longest, brightest day of the year. Annette was the cherished daughter of Leo and Gussie Hertzman (z'l); a devoted wife to Arnold Naiman (z'l); a beloved mother and mother- in-law to Sandy Naiman and Martin Lager; Elayne and Jeremy Freeman, Glorianne Naiman and Graham Keenan. An adored grandmother and great-grandmother to Lauren (Andreas), Allison, Phoebe (Pat), Maxwell, Raphael, Penelope, Ruby and Jasper. A wonderful sister and sister-in-law to Phyllis and Morris Schwartz (z'l); Florence (z'l) and Harold Hertzman (z'l); Renee (z'l) and Norman Goodis (z'l); Laurie Naiman (z'l) and Judy Palmer; and Temmy (Naiman) Acton. A treasure to many nieces, nephews and cousins and to everyone who came into her radiant orbit. With thanks to her wonderful doctors, Ellen Morch, Stephanie Kim. Heartfelt gratitude to her compassionate caregivers: Juliet, Kareen, Felsie, Christa, Gina, Shella, Bernadith and Zeny. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West (three light west of Dufferin), for service on Tuesday, June 25th at 10:30 am. Interment at Holy Blossom Memorial Park. Donations to: Canadian Hadassah-Wizo (www.chw.ca, 416-477-5964) or to Baycrest Mountainview Programme (www.baycrestfoundation.org, 416-785-2875) would be appreciated.

My first Canadian family in Canada my memory is of a loving kind experience with Anette and her family. I felt a deep connection with this lady then and throughout the years that followed. I have always felt blessed to have known her.

When I was 15, I joined the Naiman and Freeman family in Florida to help babysit Annette`s granddaughter Lauren.
Annette was a very welcoming and kind woman, and made sure that I felt comfortable and included. From shopping for clothes, to skin care, she taught me many things in those two to three weeks.

As it was the holiday season, she went as far to rename her Hanukkah celebration Hanumas , to include me. Her richness of spirit and caring inclusion will always be remembered.

I´ll never forget Annette´s kindness to me..... in 1983, as a new immigrant from Scotland, I met one of my new neighbours, Sandy Naiman. We became very good friends, and the following summer, she invited me to the family cottage for the weekend. I still remember Annette´s warm welcome, her wonderful smile, her amazing generous hospitality, and her marvellous food! Annette was the consummate `hostess with the mostest´.......That was the first of many wonderful weekends, where Annette introduced me to her extended family - we remained friends for many years, and I truly cherish the good times we shared .... . I last saw Annette just over a year ago, and she was as lovely and lively as ever. I will remember her with such fondness...... my heartfelt condolences to Sandy, Elaine and Glorianne. May her memory be a blessing.
