ANNICK AUBERT Obituary

November 20, 1930 - April 29, 2025 Annick came to this country at a very young age, and from the beginning, she made Canada and its people her true raison d'etre. She worked for Bell Canada, where she excelled at her job and made friends for life. Her involvement in politics, as an ardent member of the liberal party, her dedication to the betterment of the mental health services (volunteering and advocating tirelessly for a great number of years at CAMH), her love of the arts and her concern for social justice, and the well being of others soon translated into very generous and constant contributions to a great number of organizations, such as OCAD, the ROM, the Children's Fund, the Liberal Party of Canada, The Canadian Red Cross, TVO, The Good Shepherd Ministries, The University of Toronto, Faculty of Music, The Lung Health Foundation, The Salvation Army, Grace Hospital, The UHN Foundation, The Loft Community Services, just to name a few; And all of them still finding Annick answering their call, even while in hospital, and towards the end of her journey here on earth. She lived a very rich and active life, travelling far and wide, while always going back to the France of her youth. She has left a legacy of hard work, dedication, and true affection to all who knew her, and share, somehow, of her endeavours. She was generous, gracious, and passionate. Tenacious in her quest for justice and fervent in her commitment to the well being of others and of her love for her adoptive country. We will miss her and remember her always. Annick has been cremated and her ashes will be placed in the St. James Cemetery, in Toronto. A commemoration will be held on-site Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Annick, we met you some 15 years ago in building. Time passed and we became reacquainted shortly before your passing. Thank you for sharing laughs and general day to day conversations. Your quiet strength was profound. you had a sense of justice and the difference between right and wrong.

I am a mother of a loved one with a psychotic illness. I had written a letter to the Toronto Star about my experiences with the mental health system that got published. Soon afterwards, I received in the mail a printed copy of "The right of caregivers to access health information of relatives with mental illness" by Billy Wing Yum Chan and Ann-Marie O'Brien. The article had been sent by Annick. Somehow, she had found my address and was reaching out to me by sending me this article. She too was a family caregiver and very committed to caring for her adopted son. She sent generous donations to Home on the Hill a supportive housing program where my son lives. I did meet her once downtown at a Tim Hortons. I wish now that we had had more of those visits because she was such an incredible person. Rest in peace dear Annick.

Annick was an inspiration to me and guided me to a more informed understanding of Canada's flawed mental health system. She was the epitome of a no-nonsense advocate for the causes she embraced with her sturdy mind and heart.

I am terribly saddened to hear of her passing. She was a valiant supporter of improvements for those suffering from serious mental illnesses and their families. The world needs more people like Annick and she will be missed

Annick had a wry sense of humor, an enlightened social conscience and was an intellectual in the true sense of the word. I was very fortunate to enjoy her friendship and will cherish her memory.
