Anoop SINGH Obituary
ANOOP SINGH December 11, 1982 - July 21, 2023 In the early hours of July 21, 2023, after 40 years in this life, Anoop Singh died in his home in Oakville, Ontario. He left on his own terms, just as he designed it: at home, next to his wife, Supriya. We will spend the rest of our lives searching for the right words to express how much we loved him, how much we still love him, and how much we miss him. Anoop was a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a sports lover, a tech nerd in the purest way, and a retiree at heart. He was tall and tranquil, a port at sea, a much-needed zephyr for us all. Born in New York and raised in Brossard, Quebec, he graduated from McGill University in Electrical Engineering in 2006, and received his MBA from Queen's University in 2012. He spoke flawless French and broken Punjabi. He loved to relax outside, rewatch the 'Marge vs. the Monorail' episode of The Simpsons, and build Magna-Tiles villages with his daughter, Satya. Anoop is survived by his parents, Milkha and Mohinder Singh; he had his father's determined resolve, and his mother's gentle spirit. He was their baby, always. He is survived by his sister, Preeti, her husband, Kamaljit, and their children, Saverah and Armaan; and his sister-in-law, Divya, and the children she shared with Anoop's brother, Vikram: Dylan and Reya. He had a special connection with Dylan, to whom he will forever be Chachu. He will always be loved by his South Shore buddies, and the 1750 Salvador Crew. Above all, Anoop is survived by his wife, Supriya, and their daughter, Satya, the love of their lives, combined or apart. Anoop and Supriya met in 2001, when he was seventeen and she was fifteen. Together, they were tender, hilarious, and of course, competitive. Supriya says they met when a friend introduced them outside of a Subway in Montreal's Place Ville Marie; if you asked Anoop, he'd say it was at a basketball tournament in the Eastern Townships, six months earlier. The details are ancillary, but the result is Satya, a bright light in what has sometimes felt like inexorable darkness. She liked to boss him around, as little girls should, and he happily followed her to whatever planet, whatever galaxy she wanted to visit next. She carries her father into the future with her. Anoop died of a vast, unrelenting, and cruel cancer. His family is thankful for the care he received from his palliative team, Dr. Brush at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital; intake nurse, Nancy at Ian Anderson House; nurse, Dolly; counsellor, Dee Currens; and care coordinator, Heba Oshalla. Wherever he is, we hope Anoop is reunited with his older brother, Vikram, and that they're united in the mundane: playing basketball, having a bite, marathoning a new video game. Indeed, Supriya and Anoop sometimes talked about how they were living in a kind of video game simulation - they would one day need to find each other again when the game ended. We know that we'll meet Anoop anew, in this life or in the next. We can't wait to tell him, one more time, how much we love him.
