Anthony CROSSLEY Obituary

April 13, 1942 – August 13, 2024 We are sad to announce the passing of Anthony Crossley (aka "Tony," "Ant," "Papa Smurf," "Grandad"). Beloved husband of Honey (nee Kerr); wonderful father to Sarah (William Ford); and cherished grandfather of Isabelle. Anthony was born in Bradford, England, and was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Kenneth Crossley. As the first in his family to attend university, Anthony obtained his B.A. at the University of Western Ontario before obtaining his law degree from the University of Toronto. He was a highly respected corporate lawyer and mentor to innumerable students and lawyers. Whether it was teaching them the fundamentals of corporate law, private practice and/or client service, Anthony was always available to take a call, go for lunch (preferably at Hy's) and/or provide sage advice (which he hoped made the practice of law just a little more fun for those he worked with). Anthony was a loving and devoted husband and life partner that enjoyed cooking, travelling, cars, and golf (The Toronto Hunt, Hamilton Golf and Country Club, and anywhere else he could get in a round). He was a voracious reader and cat-lover, particularly to rescues of all ages. Dad/Papa Smurf – thank you for always being there and passing on to me such strength. You will be dearly missed but forever in our hearts. A special thank you to all of the PSWs who assisted with Anthony's homecare in the last three years, and to the team at House Calls. A visitation will be held on August 21, 2024, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 375 Mt. Pleasant Road, Toronto. A private graveside service will be held for the family on August 23, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anthony's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario (Alzheimer.ca/on) or the Toronto Humane Society.

Anthony was an exceptionally kind, patient, and generous lawyer, mentor, and friend. He was a bon vivant and gentleman at heart. He practised law and treated his clients and friends with his inimitable grand style and was a role model for younger generations of lawyers. He and Honey were the consummate hosts of innumerable (fun!) dinner parties, business functions, and golf outings, replete with laughter and warm friendship. His humanity and selfless acts of kindness left a mark on so many people. I am grateful for our friendship and send my heartfelt condolences to Honey, Sarah and family.

Honey and Sarah-
So very sorry to hear of your loss. I worked for Tony so long ago in the 1980-90´s era and remember his generosity of time, mentorship and humour throughout and being an obvious proud father to Sarah. Although I am sorry we lost contact over time, I remember you all and send my condolences

I am so sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. I learned so much from Tony in my early days at RBC, and he was so kind and generous, often hosting business dinners at his home alongside Honey, together they were so thoughtful and amazing cooks! Tony often spoke of Sarah, he was so proud of his family.

Dear Sarah, William, Honey and Isabelle - I remember Tony from the time I was articling. Tony was a corporate lawyer who spent many hours teaching me about corporate law matters. I am grateful to this day for the wisdom he imparted to me. He was so very proud of you, Sarah. I remember Tony proudly bringing you to the office to meet all of us. May his memory be a blessing to you always. Julie Hannaford

Good bye to an old friend and business partner who (and Honey) were named guardians of our two children, when they were younger, many years ago. We enjoyed numerous trips to Hy's for lunch which included humor and many laughs as the main course. Tony was one of a kind and a special friend who will be greatly missed.
