Anthony KETCHUM Obituary

ANTHONY KETCHUM John Anthony Cheyne Ketchum, aged 86, died peacefully, with family by his side on February 1, 2024, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Husband of Mary Elizabeth (nee Hungerford); son of Philip and Ottilie Ketchum; brother of Nicholas and the late Susie Migotti, Patricia Lawson, Penelope Sanger and Philip. Loving father to John (Edit), Edward (Colleen) and William; and proud grandfather to Hannah, Alison, Ana Sofia and Anton. Tony lived with purpose. As an educator, a builder of award-winning green dwellings and a dedicated commuter cyclist (who also biked across Canada), he influenced and inspired many. All of it accomplished with the unwavering and loving support of Mary. As he said, "life was too short for this Ketchum couple." A funeral service will be held in Toronto at St. Clements, Eglinton, at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd. Reception to follow.

I´m sorry I didn´t know sooner. Mr Ketchum was my teacher and inspiration. What a good man. I will always cherish that he chose me to be his Optician. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Ed, Colleen, Hannah, Alison, and Mary (who borrowed our pack'n play over 10 years ago and I remember her kind phone message),
I am thinking of you all today as you celebrate the wonderful life of Ed's Dad.

Deepest condolences to Mary and family. We were always happy to see Anthony resting on our garden wall during daily walks around the block with Mary. We are fairly certain we built that ledge with you in mind, Anthony, though we had no idea it would provide you with the perfect resting place. Kind, engaged, neighbourly are a few words that come to mind when we think of you, and we hope to see Mary soon. With sympathy and with admiration for Mary and Anthony - a lovely couple who supported each other quite seamlessly along the way. Jennifer Posthumus and Martin Orbanic

I knew Tony from working with him and Mary on For Our Grandchildren's Board of Directors. Tony was such a kind, gentle, soft spoken, dedicated man. I will always carry good memories.

Tony was a respected colleague for many years at Jarvis Collegiate when the school had an envied reputation. He was a model of independent minded achievement, determined to improve the world, but always with a good humour. Ahead of our times. Rest well.

Nares Inlet will be a less sunnier place without Tony. He will be missed! Tony certainly had a life well lived! Condolences from our family!

Anthony was my second cousin. He very kindly spent a Saturday morning in the '90s teaching me how to bake homemade bread. I continued to bake bread for many years after that. I have many fond memories of him. My condolences to Mary and family and friends.
