ROSS, Anthony Nicholas (Tony)
Passed away peacefully early in the morning of August 6th at Bridgepoint Palliative Care Facility. He is survived by 2 sons, Robert and Nicholas, Halifax; stepdaughter, Deanna Rexe, Vancouver; his niece, Margaret Churchill; and his cousin Mark Burke, Toronto. Born in Athy, County Kildare, Ireland and educated at Clongowes he spent his early working years in shipping ending in Spain where he became the translator for The Pride and the Passion. Immigrating to Canada Mr. Ross worked for many years with CBC Halifax as Radio Drama Producer and as a producer for TV. Returning to Ireland, he was the first TV host of the program that became The Antiques Roadshow, and produced a number of programs for Telefis Eirrean. Upon returning to Canada he became Radio Drama Producer for the Prairies. He then served briefly on The Board of Broadcast Governors after which he spent 20 years teaching arts management and communications at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough. Mr. Ross acted as well in a number of CBC radio dramas and was well known for his great and distinctive voice. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
