CHETWYND, Sir Arthur Ralph Talbot,
Bt. 8th Baronet of Brocton Hall, Staffordshire, Retired Film Producer
Born October 28, 1913, Walhachin, BC, died peacefully at the Golden Plough Lodge, Cobourg, ON, Sunday, July 11, 2004 in his 91st year. Son of the late Hon. William Ralph Talbot Chetwynd, MLA, MC and Frances Mary, nee Jupe. Beloved husband of Marjory Chetwynd, nee Lang. Dear father of Robin (Donna) and Richard (Anne). Cherished grandfather of Kimberly, Peter, Hugh (Wendy) and Brian, great grandfather of Owen and uncle of Bruce Lang, Marjory Lang Johnstone and Mary Lang Bryant. Also missed by extended family Heather Chetwynd, Terri Preece, Michael, Heather, Kaili and Erin Tzekas. He engaged in ranching, teaching and rehabilitation in BC (1928-42). During WW II, he served in the RCAF (1943-45) as Chief Instructor Medical Reconditioning. At the University of Toronto (1945-51), he was an Associate Instructor in the School of Physical and Health Education, Athletic Association Publicity Officer and Field Supervisor for the Canadian Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety programme (1946-49). He founded Chetwynd Films Ltd. (1950) which specialized in the production of educational, instructional, sports and travel programs for screen and television - recipient of many national and international awards. He was a gregarious and spirited contributor to the business, church and social communities serving variously as member, director, president, chair and patron of such organizations as the Empire Club of Canada, the Royal Commonwealth Society of Canada, the Monarchist League of Canada, the Saint Lazarus Society, Canadian Friends of West Indian Christians, Grenville Christian College, the Barbados National Trust, the Canterbury Cathedral Restoration Appeal in Canada and the St. Peter's Anglican Church Building Fund, Cobourg. His numerous recognitions include Voluntary Service and Victory Medals (1945), Queen's Silver and Golden Jubilee Medals (1977, 2003), Order of Barbados Silver Crown of Merit (1984), Freedom City of London (1989), Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Film and Television Production Association, Life Member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. Special thanks to all the caring staff at the Golden Plough Lodge. According to his wishes there will be a private family funeral. A memorial service will be held in September at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Cobourg, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Peter's Anglican Church Building Fund, Cobourg, ON.
