CURRIE, Rev. Dr. Arthur William M.A., B.D., M.Th., D.D.

October 9, 1919 - October 15, 2012 Surrounded by the love of his family, on October 15, 2012, aged 93, at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria. Beloved husband and soulmate of Anne MacIntyre Scobie for 66 years. Cherished and admired father of John (Laureen Lapp), David (Carol Dahlquist), Margaret (Kent Ashby), Janet (Steve Norris), and Sheila (Fred McConnell). Adored grandfather of Andrew (Joana), Shannon (Michael) and Alison (Michael); Meg, Ashley, Colin and Hunter; Alexandra and Callum; Adam B., Eric and Adam N.; Kirsten, Zachary, Elijah and Matthew. The son and grandson of Presbyterian ministers, Arthur was born in Hawkesbury, Ontario, and lived in Lindsay, Sault Ste. Marie and Creemore. He graduated from University of Toronto and Knox College, and was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1945. During almost seven decades of wise and faithful ministry, Arthur served congregations in Rosetown (Saskatchewan), Runnymede (Toronto) and St. Andrew's (Ottawa). In 1981, he was elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Canada at the 107th General Assembly. Following his retirement in 1986, he served as Interim Moderator for several congregations. For the past twelve years, Arthur and Anne maintained active ministry as dedicated pastoral visitors for St. Andrew`s (Victoria), providing compassionate support for housebound individuals and hospital patients until September 2012. Deeply committed to his vocation in ministry, Arthur's genuine love for others touched the lives of many people. His quiet strength, kindness and infinite patience were an inspiration to those who were honoured to know him. He also loved the family cottage, a truly special place for Arthur, where he enjoyed the laughter and love of his family and friends. Memorial services are being held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Victoria, on Saturday, October 20th at 2:00pm, and also at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 82 Kent Street, Ottawa, on Saturday, November 3rd at 2:00pm, with a reception to follow. To honour Arthur's life of devoted service to others, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Canada or to the charity of your choice.
