DACRE, Dr. Arthur John Irving (John)
Passed away peacefully on January 2nd, 2015, at the age of 88. He was the much beloved husband of Alison for 65 years. Dear father of Roger (Joe), Annabel (Daniel) and Tania (David), grandfather of Benjamin, Elspeth (Jeffrey) and Victoria and great-grandfather of Emerson Lucy.
John was born in Bristol, U.K. In 1950, he trained at St. Thomas Hospital Medical School and after completing his training Alison and he moved to Northern Ireland where John was an Anaesthetist for the Royal Army Medical Corps. In 1961, he was appointed Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Rampton Special Hospital. In 1965, the family moved to Barbados where John was Medical Superintendent, Barbados Mental Hospital and Consultant Psychiatrist for Windward and Leeward Island Governments. In 1970, John and Alison moved to Canada where John held senior Forensic Psychiatric positions working for the Ministry of Corrections and the Ministry of Health. In 1991 John retired and in 2002 he was recognized for Services to Justice and awarded the Governor General of Canada Exemplary Service Medal.
