Augute Dubickas Obituary
Augute Rose Dubickas of Burlington, Ontario, passed away on March 13, 2026, at Agecare Brant in Burlington, Ontario, at the age of 93, after a brief illness. Augute (Rose) was born on November 4, 1932, in Kaunas, Lithuania, to parents, Marcelius and Eugenija Gugis of Vilkaviskis, Lithuania, where they lived on a farm until WWII. During the second World War, her parents were forced to flee Lithuania with their two young children (Augute and Tadas). They were settled in a displaced persons camp in Blomberg, Germany. In 1948, the Gugis family immigrated to Canada, where they bought and operated a family dairy farm in Woodstock, Ontario, and then a tobacco farm in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Augute and her younger brother, Tadas attended secondary school at Woodstock Collegiate. In 1954, Augute married Vytautas Dubickas, and in 1955, they welcomed their only son, Stasys (Stan). The family lived in Toronto initially, moved to Hawthorne (Los Angeles), California, returned to Canada after two years and settled in Burlington in 1968. Augute loved and took great care of her rose gardens in Burlington. She absolutely loved the outdoors and mushroom picking anywhere, especially at their cottage in the Kawarthas. Augute was predeceased by much loved brother, Tadas Gugis (Nairobi, Kenya) and wife, Linda Gufler-Brandstaetter; parents, Marcelius and Eugenija Gugis; and husband, Vytautas Dubickas. Augute is survived by her son, Dr. Stan Dubickas and his wife, Aldona (Biskys), with whom Augute spent decades of travel, laughter and love; nephew, Anton Gufler-Brandstaetter (Gugis) and wife, Sarah; and grandnieces, Poppy and Eloisa, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. We are very grateful to Dr. Harpal Singh, as well as the amazing staff of Hidden Valley, Agecare Brant for their excellent care. Visitation from 10 - 11 a.m., Mass at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Lithuanian Martyrs Catholic Church, 2185 Stavebank Road, Mississauga, Ontario.
