Barbara CASS Obituary
BARBARA ELIZABETH CASS (née Wood) On September 28, 2018. Born February 21, 1923 in Toronto, the daughter of the late James and Isobel (née Shortreed) Wood. Also predeceased by her husband, Ronald; sons, James and Jeffrey; and siblings and their spouses, James, Margaret (Ross) Johnson, Jean (Scott) Dalziel and Donald (Grace). Survived by sons, David and Frederick (Tracy); grand-daughters, Tiffany, Jamaica (Cory), Leanne and Lindsay; sister-in-law, Norita Wood; nieces, nephews, and cousins. After graduation from Victoria College in 1944, Barb worked for Bell Telephone until her marriage to Ron on March 4, 1950. They decided to settle in Belleville because it was about half-way between her hometown and Ron's, which was Winchester. Raising four sons kept her rather busy for many years, but not too busy to found a program at St. Andrew's Church teaching English to new Canadians, to serve as the President of the Belleville chapter of the University Women's Club and to sit on the Board of Directors of First Adventure Child Development Centre. Barb eventually returned to the workforce as a teacher of ESL at Loyalist College and, throughout her life, enjoyed playing bridge and twinkling the ivories, both of which she did into her 90s. Funeral will be held at Burke Funeral Home, 150 Church St., Belleville on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Belleville Cemetery. Sincere appreciation goes from the family to staff at QHC and EMS, Dr. McPhail and caregivers Becky and Vicki. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice.
