BARBARA JEAN GIBSON (nee MacLaurin) On October 31, 2021, we lost Barbara Jean Gibson (nee MacLaurin), beloved wife and best friend of her husband of 65 years, Keith Gibson. Together they were twin pillars of their family including David (Trish), Bruce (Susan), Karen and a large extended family. As a young woman, Barb had a fierce passion for education and adventure. She graduated from the University of Toronto in Classics and went on to become a teacher. She spent a good part of her life travelling across Canada, Scotland, Alaska, Turkey, and her beloved Siesta Key. Barb was a champion of her grandchildren Grant, Matthew, Glennie, and Gracie. Alongside Keith, she cheered us on at soccer games, dance recitals and many graduations. Their unfailing support, generosity and confidence in our choices gave us the opportunity to pursue our dreams. She loved collecting shells on the beach and playing in the pool with all the grandchildren and their friends. She spent many lovely afternoons sitting with a book enjoying her garden while snacking on raspberries. She cooked gourmet dinners with her friends but was also known for making the best chocolate brownies for every family gathering in Muskoka (always with a side of butter tarts). Her love of singing and piano were on display every Christmas while she played carols. Barb and Keith had a great circle of friends, many from the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club. Perhaps none more cherished than their dear friends, Frank and Paula Zahniser whom they met at Windermere in 1942. That meeting marked the beginning of our American family. Together they travelled, curled, played tennis, and always gathered at Niagara on the Lake for Christmas. Together, Barb and Keith had a deep sense of philanthropy, community, and unfailing kindness. Barb used her courage and energy to help grow Bereaved Families of Ontario to increase support for those who have lost loved ones. Her family, including her parents, brothers and their families would all have been proud of the life she led. A deep thank you to all the wonderful, patient care workers who made her life better. Now she is walking a beach somewhere, reunited with Keith and Karen. Please send condolences to
