Barbara HART Obituary

BARBARA CAROLYN EDMUNDS HART Born May 5, 1928 in Ottawa, Ontario, Barbara died peacefully July 24, 2022 at Covenant Living of Florida (Fort Lauderdale), where she had lived happily for that past 13 years. Predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Charles Edward Hart (1925-2008), also of Ottawa, Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her five sons: Michael (Jan), Charles (Catherine), Christopher (Christine), Geoffrey (Sarah), and Kevin (Brigid); 12 grandchildren (Matthew, Liam, Jessica, Joel, Devin, Kathleen, Lilian, Eleanor, Jack, Charlotte, Lochlan and Wren); and seven great grandchildren (Arriana, Piper, Finley, Isla, Charlotte, Declan and Leah). Barbara graduated from McGill University, then qualified and worked as a physiotherapist for a number of years. An active and determined woman of strong faith and a generous heart, she endured many health challenges throughout her life with remarkable grace, resilience and a joyful spirit. Family members were always amazed by her inspirational attitude whenever recovering from a health setback or major surgery. Having lived successively in Canada, England and the U.S., Barb was well travelled, and wished to be particularly remembered at the family cottage on Green Lake, Clarendon, Quebec. "It's my favourite place in the world," she would say, recalling the deep roots and generational memories there dating from the late 1940s. The Hart family would like to thank Covenant Living of Florida for their additional support towards the end of Barbara's life, the Catholic Hospice of S. Florida, and express much gratitude to Vermalee Wilson for her personal, daily care and friendship to Barbara during the final years of her life as her health declined. Funeral service will be held at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church (95 Somerset St. W.) Ottawa, on Friday, October 7 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Catholic Hospice of S. Florida (catholichealthservices.org)

Barb was without a doubt my mother´s closest friend. They were so alike they were often mistaken for sisters, as both were tall, athletic and smart brunettes with huge smiles, huge families and busy lives. Their support for each other through every joy and calamity was absolute. My favourite memories of Barb and Charlie come from their visit to my house in Barbados with my parents. The four of them stayed in our guest cottage and talked and laughed uproariously all week, led in every game by Barb. I cannot imagine how much you all will miss her. She was larger than life, full of laughter and advice - and was always dying to try something new. Long May you hear her laughter ringing in your ears. I know I always will

Sincere sympathy to the Hart family.
Tim enjoyed meeting Barbara at the family home in Purley, England when Chris Hart was studying in London. We both subsequently had the good fortune to visit Green Lake, and can imagine the many happy memories the family have of time spent with her there. May she rest in peace.
