MCCRINDLE, Barbara Ironside (née Purdy)
Died peacefully, age 97, on October 14, 2011 in Keswick, Ontario. She was born in East Orange, New Jersey on May 17, 1914 and moved to Toronto as the bride of Alexander Chisholm Ironside in 1937. She was widowed with three young children in 1951. The Ironside and McCrindle families became one in 1955 when Barbara married John Andrew McCrindle and they became the parents of six children overnight. Barbara was pre- deceased by John in 2006 and also by their daughter, Margery Pickett, and Margery's daughter, Jacqueline. 'Baba' is survived by five children, their spouses, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren: Sue and Wayne (deceased) Kilbey, Cleveland, Ohio; Tom and Lynn Ironside, Keswick; Pat and John Slade, Kincardine; Alex (Sandy) and Rose Ironside, Vancouver, B. C.; Judy and René Meyre, Richmond, VA.In addition to raising six children, Barb was a committed volunteer at Wellesley Hospital, serving in the newborn unit and the gift shop for 41 years. Her love for family and friends, her quick sense of humour and sharp wit, and her kindness and friendliness towards all provided us a fine example to follow. We
are grateful for her long life and wish to thank the kind staff at Cedarvale Lodge in Keswick for their attentive care during the last years of Barb's life. A remembrance service for Baba will be held at Trull 'North Toronto' Funeral Home, 2704 Yonge Street (5 blocks south of Lawrence Ave.) on Sunday, October 30th, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends, at Trull's, immediately following the service. The Salvation Army was Barb's favorite charity should you wish to remember her with a donation. On line condolences may be made at
