I never met Barbara Mercer, but I possess what was probably her best painting. I was told that it hung in the Ontario Art Gallery for a while. I can't find a picture of it on-line. She called it 'The Confederate' and had gifted it to the son (Laird) of her long-time partner Gerry Moses. Laird, longtime friend since 1975, had given me this painting to store for him. In the end, he gifted this painting to me in payment of a debt. I so love this painting, and will always treasure it. It also has sentimental value for me as I spent a lot of time in my early twenties at the farm where this was painted, and even have a photograph of the wagon. Here's the painting. It hangs (sits) above the pictured fireplace. Looks fabulous. Thank you Barbara!

Extremely saddened by this news.
I co-authored a book with Barbara called When Poets Collide.
I only found out this morning..of her passing.
I suppose if there were any word that I might say, they would most likely be in that book. Because I couldn't replicate that body of work again.
RIP Dear friend and fellow Author.

Sadness fills this space but happy memories surround it.
You were the river
I was the wind.
You were sunlight
Now oracular.
But still... I see you.
Vivid..
