It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Barclay Gordon Stewart during his sleep on August 8, 2025, in his 94th year. Barclay was born in Toronto, Ontario, on October 26, 1931, to Dr. John Stewart and Irene Stewart (née Porter). Barclay's father came from Glasgow, Scotland, and his mother from Trillich, Ireland. Barclay grew up with his brother Donald in the tranquil setting of the Beaches neighbourhood in East Toronto. Barclay was a kind and good-natured soul with a great sense of humour. He was a natural athlete who played hockey (Toronto Marlboros), football, and golf in his youth. Barclay graduated from Malvern Collegiate Institute. Following, he graduated from the University of Toronto (Class of 1956) with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. In 1957, he married Suzanne Katherine Buck, a Registered Nurse, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage before Sue passed in 2003. Barclay practiced Dentistry for 44 years. He was known for his dedication to his work, his integrity, and his commitment to his patients. For many years, Barclay and Sue enjoyed leisure time in the country. After retiring, Barclay spent his time reading, looking out for his son Paul, and enjoying Sunday dinners with family. Barclay will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by sons Paul and Ian, and daughter-in-law Heather. Barclay's legacy lies in the love and support he gave to his family. He was a devoted husband and father. Both Barclay and Sue were pioneers in the support, nurture, and upbringing of a special needs child. Many thanks to Dr. M. Jackson for taking time to visit Barclay at home and to his colleagues at NYGH. If desired, donations may be made in Barclay's name to the North York General Hospital Foundation (Senior's Care). A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Anglican Church, York Mills, 19 Don Ridge Drive, Toronto, on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11 a.m. Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel,
