My favourite memory of Barry occurred just after our 13 year old son Jamie was diagnosed with type one diabetes. We were overwhelmed. Barry and Judy showed up at our front door with a book about juvenile diabetes that they had ordered from Texas for us. It, like Barry was a lifesaver. I will forget the kindness you both showed to our family when we desperately needed some.

Barry was a wonderful friend and colleague. I joined him in teaching bioethics in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto in the 1970s and we kept that partnership going with deep respect for each other. Two deontologists with not a grain of utilitarianism. I'll miss our luncheons and discussions and I'll really miss you.
