Barry PHILLIPS Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Barry S. Phillips, surrounded by love and family, died peacefully, after a courageous battle against cancer at Hill House Hospice on Monday, March 11, 2024. Barry was the beloved husband of Susan for 62 years; cherished father of Michael and Anita, Todd and Linda, and Catherine and David Coode; adored grandfather of Natalie, Elizabeth, Andrew, Daniel and Hannah, David and Shayna, and Laura and Joe; loving older brother of Maida and Allen Gerskup. Barry dearly loved his family and friends. He was so proud of all his children and grandchildren. He was committed to his profession of pharmacy and giving back to his community. He was also a devoted man of faith. We are forever grateful to his caregivers, Gloria, Marj, Dr. Justine Baek, and the palliative care teams from the Temmy Latner Center for Home Palliative Care, and Hill House Hospice, who afforded Barry great comfort and compassion in his final days. Funeral Service will be held at Beth Tzedec Synagogue, 1700 Bathurst Street (south of Eglinton), on Wednesday, March 13th at 12:00 p.m. Details for the funeral service, interment and Shiva at: www.benjaminsparkmemorialchapel.ca We ask that donations be given to Hill House Hospice (www.hillhousehospice.com/donations, 905- 737-9308), or your charity of choice.

I worked with Barry many years ago in shoppers. I played with the Toronto maple leafs and we had many memories about my career. He was so good to me and I was so happy to have called him my friend. I am so sorry for your loss and that I hadn´t heard about his illness before now. He will always hold a special place in my heart

I knew Barry from Shoppers Drug Mart and then briefly at Beth Tzedec when I attended Rosh Hashanah service with my sister. He was always thoughtful, helpful and a real mensch. I missed him when he left the drug store. I am truly sorry for your loss. Riki Turofsky

My heart stopped beating for a moment today when I heard this sad news. It was hard to catch the next breath Barry (always Mr Phillips to me) was a good and kind man I had the joy to work with in a store, support from central office and always appreciate as a customer at Royal York and Bloor. He had a huge impact on my appreciation for the role and responsibilities pharmacists have. A great man a lovely person. Family in many ways. Will be missed and always appreciated with great love and kindness Michael Todd Catherine Susan. Barry talked with me often about all of you. He was so proud. You all brought him so much joy!
