BARRY STROUD Obituary
Barry Felsted Stroud, aged 87, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Joseph Brant Hospital, with his wife and daughter at his side. Beloved husband of Carol (née Wannan); father of Lesley, and son-in-law, Donald; and predeceased by daughter, Laralyn. The most cherished grandfather to Madison, Gwen and Logan Buitenhuis. Born in Kent county, England, his favourite childhood memories were of family sailing adventures on rivers and seasides. Immigrating to Canada at age 13, he worked summers picking worms and stocking shelves at A&P. This paid his way to graduate from the University of Toronto with a double major in Math and Physics. In 1960, before graduation, he was hired by TDSB to teach physics at Danforth Technical School. His sailing days required self-reliance and teamwork, along with quick and calm decision making. These early skills translated into leadership roles for a 40-year career with the Toronto Board of Education. He became principal of Western Technical, Oakwood Collegiate, Brockton High School, Director of principals for Canadian Youth, and finishing as Principal of Boyne Outdoor and Urban Studies Centers in Toronto. Building was always his fervent hobby, involving his students, colleagues and friends. He designed and built a trimaran, a family home on the escarpment and established a renovation and pool construction company. He was always engaged in a project, but found time to take family camping trips and later spend hours with his grandchildren and their dogs at the farm. He was a devoted grandfather, driving to unending soccer, riding and jiu-jitsu tournaments. He lived to see and be proud of the fine adults they've become and celebrate their academic successes. In his extra free time, he loved travelling around the world with his wife of 57 years and lifelong friends. He navigated the waters of life's challenges in such a way to captain those around him. His reliability was admired and gave support to all he met. He will be truly missed, but his influence will continue to be felt in spirit. Special thanks to the caring doctors and nurses at Joseph Brant Hospital. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family invites you to privately celebrate his life in your own way. If desired, donations to Joseph Brant Hospital in Barry's name would be appreciated.
