BASIL ARVANITIS Obituary

BASIL JOHN WILLIAM ARVANITIS (Bill) Peacefully at home in the arms of his family on December 19, 2023, at the age of 58, following a courageous and largely private battle with pancreatic cancer. Survived by his loving parents, Joe and Bessie Arvanitis, his adoring wife, Dr. Jennifer Arvanitis; and treasured children, Michelle, Dayna and Evan. Beloved brother of Helene Arvanitis and John Arvanitis (Alex Collins). Cherished by his nieces Victoria and Dr. Khrystyna Loanidis (Jamie Mundt) and nephews Christopher and Nicholas Arvanitis. Will be dearly missed by godparents Steve and Mary Papamarko. Deeply admired son-in-law of Flora Reynolds. Bill lived a life of service to his community, his church, his family, and to countless charitable organizations. No cause was too big nor too small to capture Bill's heart and he will be remembered for his profound generosity of spirit in ensuring that he did his absolute best to improve the lives of those around him. Bill was the President of Arvan Rehab Group and the Co-founder of Athletes Care Sports Injuries Clinics. He held numerous volunteer leadership positions including serving as a longstanding board member of his lifelong church. He was a loyal and devoted friend, truly loved for his radiant and authentic presence. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robert Grant, Dr. Ernie Mak, and the dedicated oncology team at Princess Margaret Hospital. We will be eternally grateful for the kind and compassionate attention Bill received at home from nurses Margaret Mensah and Anita Owusu, coordinated seamlessly by Samina Lalji at Home and Community Care Services. Many thanks to Dr. Russell Goldman and Dr. Justine Baek of the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care for tenderly supporting Bill at home at the end of his incredible life. Visitation will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre at 375 Mount Pleasant Road, on Friday, December 22nd from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3125 Bayview Avenue. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. May Bill's remarkable impact on this world be forever etched in our memory.

Had the pleasure of meeting Bill years ago as he resided throughout the week at our family home in Parry Sound when in town for business. Always the kindest most respectful person my mother and family. It was sad to hear the news. My best to Jen and the kids. I haven't seen Bill in many years but always enjoy seeing the family Christmas cards he never forgot to send my mom! We will miss you sir! You are in a better place now!!

I was so sorry to hear of Bill´s passing! I had the privilege of working with him when he was on the Board of Reach for the Rainbow! He was an inspiration to all and will be sadly missed!

Dear Jennifer, Michelle, Dayna and Evan,
Bill was one of my best friends in physio school and we would spend many hours together, riding the Shepard bus, practising for our exams, and hanging out a school. He was fun, gracious and ever the gentleman. We had kept up over the years, touching base every now and again. I am sad to say we had not spoken recently and I was unaware of his recent battle with cancer.
The world was better with Bill - he made sure of that. I am so fortunate to have known him.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Bill was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father. An exemplary human in every way, he will be sorely missed by all who were privileged to know him. Rest in peace. Strength to those he leaves behind.
