Beatrice FISCHER Obituary

BEATRICE FISCHER (née Shapiro) 1919 - 2021 Just shy of her 102nd birthday she died September 20, 2021, peacefully and in her beloved home. She was a "force of nature and brought new meaning to the cliche 'a life well lived' by actually living it" as her nephew, Danny, said. Wife of the late Dr. Martin A. Fischer, daughter of Julius and Fanny Shapiro, loving sister of the late Marion Shapiro, Francine Ellman of Florida, Ruth Singer of New York and Jack Shapiro of Regina and Toronto. Mother of Erica (David), Laura (Stephen), Philip (Ngaire), Steven (Shari) and Caroline Fischer. Grandmother of her beloved Anna (Felipe), Nicole (Dan), Zara, Judd, Emma, Alexandra, Madelaine, Leo, Eli and Ari, Great-grandmother of Ava, Ethan, Rafael, Isabel, Aubrey and Sebastian She was cherished by numerous nieces and nephews. They all have treasured stories about their aunt Beatrice. The family would like to recognize and will never be able to sufficiently thank Laura who passionately and meticulously cared for our mother's needs day and night for many many years. We would like to thank Beth Boclongan from the bottom of our hearts. She lovingly and competently cared for our mother for almost 30 years. Likewise, Stevie's Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night visits were remarkable. Without them our mother would not have reached this great age. We would also like to thank her other caregivers, Nancy Ayub, Revelie Duque, Jinny Alberva, Beth Dulatre and Lolita Orines, for their competence and kindness over the last few years of her life. There will be a Covid-19 restricted graveside funeral on Thursday, September 23 which will be livestreamed. The exact time is to be confirmed. Please check the Benjamin's Park Memorial website for exact time. One can access the livestream by going to benjaminsparkmemorialchapel.ca then click on "click to watch here" on her death notice.

Beatrice will always be a living memory for me. Her stories, her jibes and smiles; Beth and tea, cookies, sometimes a fish-head; what lovely afternoons we spent talking about her family history! My condolences to her family and friends.

Dear Fischer Family. On Sunday, while putting away groceries here in California, Beatrice popped in my head, as she does so often in random moments that always made me smile...or even hesitate ...because Beatrice may not approve. And how lucky I am that this is the case because she was so fun, so funny, so witty, so filled with wisdom, so kind and generous, and someone I feel so fortunate to have had in my life, and my family's life. Signature Beatrice was always in play with an opinion, with insights, with information and if you didn't have a sense of humor, forget it! Thank goodness for that! I have considered Beatrice one of my dearest friends for over 40 years, and I know she felt the same towards me, even not so long ago, sending a message via Caroline that should I know, even in her waning years, she often told a story of one moment we shared. I, too, tell the same story to others. Calling her a force of nature might not do her justice, because unless you met Beatrice, you cannot imagine her joie de vive, her eccentricities, or the joy she will bring to your life. I am grateful our paths crossed. Sending much love. Shari and Tommy

Beatrice was an amazing and inspiring woman. To live such a long and full life is a testament, not only to her strength, but to her caring family.
She was always a gracious hostess to Mary and me. We fondly think of her when passing by Cortleigh Blvd.
Our deepest sympathy to all the family.
