Beatrice READ Obituary

READ, Beatrice Emma
September 6, 1999: Beatrice Emma Read, after six years as a resident at Crofton Manor in Vancouver, died peacefully at Aberdeen Hospital in Victoria. Born in Woodstock, Ontario, on October 24, 1907, Beatrice lived most of her life in Vancouver where she graduated from UBC in 1930. She was the only child of Beatrice and Hugh John Davis. H.J. Davis established himself in Vancouver in 1911 and was to become one of the pioneer business men of that city where he developed strong connections with the Marine Drive Golf Club. She was predeceased in January, 1994, by her husband, Frank. Frank Read coached a number of UBC/VRC rowing crews to international status as both silver and gold medal winners in both the British Empire & Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games. Beatrice is survived by her two sons, H. David Read (Judith) and Charles T. Read (Dianne), and by her three granddaughters, Andrea, Zoe, and Kara. A private memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Vancouver's Christ Church Cathedral where she was married in 1935. In lieu of flowers, any donations to the Salvation Army would be sincerely appreciated.
