Benjamin SHORE Obituary

SHORE, Benjamin , B.Sc.,M.D.,C.M.,F.R.C.S.(C)
After a valiant fight with cancer, peacefully at home in Brampton, Ontario on Friday, October 6, 2000. Ben was the beloved husband for 29 years of Merelyn and loving father of Michael and Tim. He is survived by his immediate family and by his siblings: Lou and his wife Dorothy of Toronto; by Joe, Saul and his wife Anita, Nat and his wife Agnes, Jack and his wife Francis, and sister Norma Rohr, all of Montreal; by his sister-in-law Allison and her husband Michael Budd of Oakville; and by his many nephews and nieces in both Canada and the United States. Ben was born in 1940 in Montreal, son of Isaac and Molly Shore and youngest brother of seven. He was educated at McGill University during which time he played basketball for the McGill Redmen, gaining many citations. His medical training and residency continued in both Ottawa and Toronto. In June of 1971 he founded the Division of Plastic Surgery at Brampton's Peel Memorial Hospital. He served the hospital in numerous capacities including Chief of Staff (1979 - 1981), member of the Board of Governors (1979 - 1981 & 1988 - 1990), and President of the Medical Staff (1988 - 1990). In 1993 he founded the Brampton Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Clinic where he spent a most enjoyable six years. No words can adequately describe the man, nor his achievements give a sense of him. Ben was a man who gave more of himself than he ever took and will be sadly missed by his family and friends as one of the kindest and most caring people they have ever known. Ben's funeral, a celebration of his life, will be held at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, Sunday, October 8. It is Ben's wish that any donations in memory of his name be made to The Children's Wish Foundation. 1730 McPherson Court, Unit 30, Pickering, Ontario L1W 3E6 (905) 831-9474
