Beverley died on the morning of Friday, October 18, 2024 surrounded by her closest friends and family. At the age of 90, Beverley died the way she lived, her way. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, wonderful sense of humour, lust for life, and ability to call a spade a shovel. She would jokingly say that on her tombstone would be the words "the lady who lunches," but that would underestimate her contribution to the world we now know. She passionately volunteered to fundraise and worked to plan events for organizations such as North York General Hospital, National Ballet of Canada, National Ballet School, Toronto Garden Club, St. John's York Mills Anglican Church, Victoria Daycare Services, Feed the Hungry in San Miguel de Allende and many others. Through her active participation, she represented Canada's ambition in the art for the National Ballet, travelling the world as far as Australia and meeting with dignitaries. She forged her path in volunteering through activism. In the 1960s, she worked to help the civil rights movement in New York State. She was involved with HOME (Housing Opportunity Made Equal) and sat on the board of a cooperative nursery school in New York State. She was an avid sportswoman, and when skiing, tennis, and golf took a toll on her body, she took up duplicate bridge-which she said would never compare to skiing the Matterhorn. She was a long-time member of the Granite Club and Toronto Ladies Golf Club. She deeply loved the arts and supported the Art Gallery of Ontario. She loved the theatre and was a lifelong season ticket holder of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Tarragon Theater. She attended the Stratford and Shaw festivals from their inception when the company performed under a tent in a field. Beverley left behind her husband George (married 67 years), her daughter Daphne, her son Graham, and her grandchildren, Eric and Charlotte, whom she adored. She also left behind many wonderful friends and acquaintances. She travelled extensively and had a long, happy life. A private service will be held at a later date. Donations in Beverley's honour can be made to the National Ballet School.
