BEVERLY THOMSON Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Beverly Thomson on September 14, 2025. Beloved wife to Rob Dale; cherished mother to daughter, Taylor (m. Max Ledger); and son, Rob; treasured friend to many and respected colleague and mentor to journalists across the country, Beverly will be deeply missed by all. She was predeceased by parents, James and Lois Thomson; and brother, Douglas; as well as in-laws, Margaret and Bill Dale. Beverly had an endless capacity of love for family and friends and recalled with great fondness her earliest friends from Camp Gay Venture and Lawrence Park C.I. She lived a life infused with kindness, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. When doctors told Beverly in 2010 that she was likely to have two more years, she took things one day, one treatment, and one joy at a time, continually surprising her medical team and remaining committed to living life to the fullest, and spending time in the places she loved, including at the family cottage on Kawagama Lake and on the mountain in Sun Peaks. Beverly defied the odds again and again, most recently gathering the strength to travel to Prince Edward County to witness and deliver a heartfelt speech at her daughter's wedding, just three weeks ago. Beverly was an inspiration and proof of the power of positivity. As an anchor at CTV Toronto, Global News, and CTV News Channel, and as co-host of Canada AM, Beverly delivered the news to Canadians for more than 30 years with professionalism and empathy. She was appointed a member of the Order of Canada for her contribution to broadcasting and commitment to volunteerism, and was recently presented with a lifetime achievement award by the Radio Television Digital News Association of Canada. Beverly was also a firm believer in giving back, supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and countless others. Beverly will be remembered not only for her many contributions as one of Canada's most respected television news personalities, but also for her grace, gratitude, and love of a good laugh. The family will host a visitation at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, on Thursday, September 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A celebration of Beverly's life will be held at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre on Friday, September 26, at 11 a.m. For online condolences, please visit www.etouch.ca. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kelly Shires Foundation for women with breast cancer. There's an extra ray of sunshine in the sky today. Rest in peace, Bev.

Thinking of Beverly today and sending my heartfelt condolences to her family. I will always cherish the memories I have of our time during the Radio and Television Arts program at Seneca College. From the start, she stood out, and we all instinctively knew she was destined to achieve her dreams. Rest in peace, Bev. We all miss you.

In 2010, I had the opportunity to meet Bev Thomson, at an early morning Canada AM event featuring Sarah McLaughlin. She was so friendly and in speaking, we thought it was neat that we shared the same first name spelled the same way - it´s not a name you hear often - we also shared the same birth day, in different years! I knew that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2015 I learned I also had breast cancer. 10 years on, I have no evidence of disease. The news of Ms Thomson´s death was difficult to take, I will miss seeing her on CTV News. May she Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. My sister, knowing that Beverly was a favourite of mine on mine on Canada Am, heard about Beverly's positive attitude during her breast cancer journey and asked Beverly if she would send me a message. That she did! , without knowing me at all she sent me the lovliest email that I will always treasure. Sending my deepest sympathy to her family and may she rest in peace.

Thinking of Bev and remembering her as charming and dedicated through her many excellent contributions to
our CTV news team. Through her long struggle with cancer,
she showed us that grace, humility and good humour can always prevail. She will be much missed.
Condolences to family and friends.

Bev and I became friends in 1988 while working together at CJBQ Radio in Belleville. We watched ''Thirty Something'' every Tuesday night at each other's apartments. One particular Tuesday at Bev's, firetrucks came roaring down the street, sirens blaring and lights flashing. Bev, always the news-hound, said, ''Let's go!'' Still clutching our cans of beer, we ran East on Victoria Avenue for several blocks until we lost track of the firetrucks and ran out of steam. Back at home, Bev got a call from the CJBQ News Director, John Ferguson, who said, ''Bev, there's a fire. You have to go cover it.''
To Rob, Taylor and Robbie:
What a vibrant woman you have had as your Wife and your Mother. I am truly sorry for this immense loss in your lives.
