Bob left his family peacefully through MAiD to join his beloved Angela (Huber) who died prematurely in Shanghai in May 2015, 4 months prior to their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Angela was the 'wind beneath his wings'. He was very proud of and devoted to his son, Mike (Jennifer); daughters, Debbie and Tobi and grandchildren, Cassandra, Amanda and Rachel. Bob was born in Brampton in 1941, to Harold and Hettie Long, older brother of the late Canon David (Arlene), the late Dr. John and favourite sister, Wendy Long-Davies (Dave Nicolle). Bob was an active member of Christ Church. He graduated from Brampton District High School in 1959/60 and the University of Guelph in 1971. The Long Family traveled by motorhome, visiting 9 provinces & the Yukon, Alaska and much of the U.S. Bob finally visited Newfoundland and Labrador with Debbie and Cassie in 2017. Winter vacations saw the family skiing in Canada, the eastern US and Europe; and they also travelled in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. Bob and Angela continued to travel to Australia, China and their favourite, South Africa. In all they visited 6 warm continents and Bob golfed them all, concluding at the Bombay Presidential in 2017. His favourite golf destination was Grand Bahama Island where he played with the Cockburn Golf Group until it's 25th anniversary in 1999, and he continued annual visits there until his late 70's. Bob shared Angela's love for animals, inheriting her Great Dane Merla, a German Shepard and a Bengal Cat. But he no longer provided evening meals for the neighbourhood racoons! Bob and Merla provided therapy as members of Therapeutic Paws of Canada. Joining Triton Engineering as a technician in 1964, Bob (with Angela and their 3 children's support) went to university in Guelph and graduated as an Engineer in 1971. He became President of Triton, but left in 1979. Bob mentored a number of young engineers in whom he developed his parents' strong work ethic, honesty and integrity. With 5 Guelph professors he founded the Ecological Services For Planning in 1974. He developed into an Environmental Engineer and in the mid 90s, a Registered Professional Planner. Bob specialized as a principal consultant for the aggregate and clay brick industries, a practice he continued until his early 80s. He was involved in more than 50 pits and quarries, for brick shale, sand and gravel, dimension stone and limestone. Bob gave his time to the community by serving in many capacities since the 1970s - as a Town and County Councillor, Deputy Reeve, the BIA, Economic Development and Council Remuneration Review Committees, the Board of Orangeville Hydro Limited and as Chair of the Dufferin County Housing Authority for 11 years. Since 1994, he was one of the Camp 17 Wardens for the University of Guelph Iron Ring Ceremony. A staunch Progressive Conservative, Bob was Vice President of the Federal and Provincial Riding Associations for many years. He was a 25+ year member of the Simcoe (Toronto) Chapter of Lambda Alpha International, Honourary Land Economics Society. Bob was an active member of Shelburne Golf Club since 2001. His company sponsored Mens' Day for about 10 years. He was a popular Team Captain for 12 years and applauded for his weekly email reports. His team, Bob's Longshots won the Wednesday League Championship in 2022 and 2023.
