Bojan ZABEV Obituary
ZABEV, Bojan
Passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Friday, December 3, 2010 at St. Joseph's Health Centre. Loving husband of Zora. Proud father of Thomas. Missed by Katarina Strk, godmother of Thomas and cherished family friend. Predeceased by his sister Pavlinka Angelovska and her husband Stevan. Bojan will be missed by his nephews Jani Angelovski, Nino Markovac and Mario Markovac and their families. A well-regarded mineral exploration and mine geologist, Bojan's professional career spanned more than four decades and included work in Canada, the U.S.A., West Africa and South America for BP-Selco and later A.C.A. Howe International Limited. During the frenetic activity of the mineral industry in the mid- 1990's, Bojan began expressing concerns of what he viewed as the slipping standards in exploration practices, most notably in the area of resource estimation. While mentoring younger geologists he would encourage them, and even colleagues, to take the time to complete quality work. He continued these efforts during his latter years as Vice President of Exploration of a junior resource company. In addition to his devotion to honest and reputable work, Bojan's heart and home were always open to those in need. He worked selflessly and tirelessly with Cro-med, a charitable organization dedicated to sending medical supplies to Croatia in the wake of the break-up of Yugoslavia, and with Canadians for Children at Health Risk, a charity committed to preventing disease and mortality in children across the globe. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto, at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Health Centre Foundation.
