BRIAN SPIVAK Obituary

Brian Stephen Spivak of Wellington, Ontario, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on January 3, 2026, at the age of 76. Brian was born May 5, 1949, to the late William "Stoney" and Evelyn Spivak in Toronto. He grew up in the Kingsway area as the eldest of three siblings, Sonya Koch (Peter) and Nancy Jarnick (Steve), and graduated with a degree in Business from Bishop's University. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Aline (nee Martel); sons, Charles (Julia) and William (Rianna); and proud "Grampa" to Nora. Brian was a dedicated and passionate husband, father, and friend. He had a fulfilling and accomplished career in the automotive industry of over 50 years. After meeting Aline while living in Ottawa, they settled together in 1994 by the lake in Ajax, Ontario, where they raised their two boys, and became an esteemed member and organizer in several communities; most notably, the Ajax Scuba Club, Ajax Minor Hockey Association, Ontario Minor Hockey Association, and various motorcycle and car clubs. He could usually be found at the local arenas watching hockey. He loved family road trips and camping when the boys were young, and travelled extensively across Canada and the US with Aline, riding his Gold Wing, Valkyrie, or driving his beloved MX-5. After his retirement, he and Aline relocated in 2019 to "The County" in Wellington-on-the-Lake. He soon joined the Trillium Miata Club and enjoyed participating and arranging drives with the club. He could tell you a great food spot in every town and city he travelled and would know the owners by name by the time he left. Brian's dry sense of humour and vast knowledge of almost any topic made him wonderful company that will be lovingly remembered and missed dearly. A celebration of life will be arranged in Wellington-on-the-Lake at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca) or The Wellington Storehouse Foodbank (www.wellingtonfoodbank.org) where he often donated, and the family encourages to donate blood if you're able. Brian's family gives warm thanks to the Intensive Care Unit (Kidd 2) at Kingston General Hospital for their kind and attentive care of Brian.

My thoughts are with the Spivak family. I was closer to Sonja and Nancy. Brian was the big brother who was always lurking around. Nancy shared stories of Brian´s adventures while we played in the living room. Brian will be missed by the many people who knew him.

I was new to town, and interested in cars. Brian befriended me and his family became a second home for me. We maintained that friendship ever since. It is with great sadness that I receive this news and I wish peace for his family. Bri; I will think of you often, and the times with you and your family. Sunny and twisty roads my friend.

Brian was such a good friend for over 50 years, and we shared many good times together. We first met when we were both dating girls in London around 1965, but our friendship really took off when Brian moved to Ottawa. By being the best man at my wedding, taking road and boat trips, buying many, many cars, and enjoying so many great meals, Brian remained a great friend and was always there when needed. Brian and Aline always had an open door for Mari and I, and even after all the years, we never ran out of bad jokes to tell each other. Having known Brian has made my life better, and I know he made the world a better place.

I remember Brian as a wonderful neighbour and friend for decades. His leadership skills were second to none. The stories would fly fast and detailed about Bishop´s University in Lennoxville, QC, Toronto in the 50s and 60s, vast car knowledge. I will never forget street BBQ parties, Charles´s and William´s hockey games in Ajax, a road trip to Buffalo to see the Bills, learning to scuba dive Sunday nights, Pizza at Pino´s and meeting at Gyro for lunch break on Laird Blvd. Wow Brian- What an amazing ride! What an amazing man! Brian has touched the lives of many and I will miss you my friend.

So many wonderful memories of Brian. I think every model of Mazda pulled into our driveway at one time or another. Al was encouraged by Brian to develop a love of motorcycles and Al still has a bike today. All thanks to Brian. The list goes on and on. Rest in peace and may the beautiful family left behind take solace in the arms of friends and family. Deepest condolences and big hugs to all.

Brian, it was always a pleasure to see at the rink over the years. You were a dedicated husband, father and hockey executive always having the kids front and centre. RIP either in the red Miata or on the bike. My deepest condolences to Aline and the boys.
