BRUCE McMURCHY Obituary

Passed away on February 16, 2025, at age 91. Like the two generations before him, Bruce lived most of his life in Huttonville and loved his time at his cottage in Temagami. Dedicated to his career of land surveying, he contributed expertise and precision to shaping the landscape of our country. Bruce was a lifelong athlete. Competing or enjoying the camaraderie, he participated in numerous sports. Early in life, he was a champion distance runner, boxer, hockey and baseball player. Later, he was an avid skier, skiing his last race at age 85 and last run at 89. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Beverley; his pride and joy, daughters, Dale (Robert) and Karyn, and son, Andrew (Arly); and grandsons, Eli and Anderson, who – along with his extended "family" and many friends – will fondly remember him for his joie de vivre. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society.

My deepest condolences go out to Bruce´s family. I enjoyed many House league races with Bruce as my mentor and we both purchased arm pads at the same time. Everytime Bruce walked by me when we had them on he´d give me a shoulder nudge. Bruce will be missed but never forgotten.

Bev and family, our thoughts are with you as we recall our memories of Bruce. The first would of course be his passion for the snowy slopes but equally his dedication to bettering his profession. Bruce was also warm and welcome friend and that we will always remember.

I had the privilege of working along side Bruce on the AOLS Complaints Committee in the 1990´s. Bruce was a true gentleman and consummate professional. I have very fond memories of working with Bruce and I consider it an honour to have made his acquaintance.

My sincerest condolences to Bev and family.

Bev and Family. We are sorry to hear of your loss. I always had a great time with Bruce when we were both on the AOLS council in the early 1980's and often joked we should have a summer meeting at Angus Lake Lodge. A few times Josie and I stopped on Highway 11 when travelling from Timmins to yell over to the island when the flag was up. He was a good friend and colleague.

Bev, and Family; Bruce is an integral part of my family´s happy memories of our first winters at Caledon. There was a "hard core" of ski racing Families, whose Dads did "Jerry-Rigged" timing and course building. Bruce was always in the centre of that activity. The Family Bonds that were established during that formative period , have lasted a life time.
Thank you Bruce for those wonderful memories. Bill Boughner and Family.

Bev - my deepest and most sincere condolences to you and the family. I'm sure Bruce, John and Ernie are schussing downhill and slalom racing and having fun wherever they are. Those were the days. The Dinosaur Ski Team will go down in legend at Caledon. Love, Carol
