BRUCE TRUSCOTT Obituary

August 2, 1943 – October 10, 2024 Bruce died at home, with his daughters by his side, on October 10, 2024, as a result of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sarah, Rebecca (Josh Kester) and Martha (Grant Caton); grandchildren, Maggie, Jameson, Ossie, Max, Pippa and Clive; his brother, Craig (Nancy); as well as many relatives and friends. Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Peggy (nee Sault); and by his parents, Marg and Os Truscott. Bruce was born and raised in Toronto's "Beach" neighbourhood, where he attended Norway Public School and Malvern Collegiate. After high school, he followed his love of science and discovery and attended the University of Toronto where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and his M.D. After graduating as a family doctor in 1969, he began his family medicine practice in Toronto's east end. While completing his medical training in the Emergency Department at St. Michael's Hospital, Bruce met Peggy and they quickly began their lives together. Bruce cared for patients in the community for more than 50 years, until his retirement in early 2022. Closing his practice was a difficult decision that was made only after the progression of his terminal lung disease. He impacted countless lives with a tireless dedication to his patients and cared for generations of families. Bruce loved living life to the fullest, no matter what he was doing; time with his family, laughing with friends, cooking and enjoying good food, spending time in nature, birdwatching, gardening, dancing and playing an eclectic mix of music on full-blast. Bruce's favourite place was the family cottage on Boshkung Lake where he truly relaxed and created memories with his grandchildren and family. He lived an active life and created new traditions after Peggy's death in 2003, taking up spin classes and enjoying annual cycling trips to Italy with friends. He was constantly fuelled by the energy he received by learning new things and problem solving. His wishes to die naturally at home were honoured thanks to the support and care of the Temmy Latner Palliative Care team. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Evan Schneider and Leslie Randl (RN) for their compassionate care during Bruce's final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care www.tlcpc.org. Please join us in celebrating Bruce's life on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Scarboro Golf & Country Club at 1:30 p.m.

I just learned of my lovely doctor Dr. Truscott. He was my wonderful, caring and so efficient family doctor. He was the best doctor anyone could hope for. We weee the same age and I loved my visits to him where we unhurriedly discussed life and his biking tours to Italy. I have sorely missed him since my departure from Toronto in 2010.
Rest in peace dear Dr. Truscott. You will always be the best doctor in my world.

We were so sorry to hear of Bruce´s passing. Mom loved Bruce dearly and had many treasured memories of summers at the cottage. Bruce always made her laugh! They kept in touch over the years and even had some phone calls in this past year. We always enjoyed seeing Bruce and hearing more cousin stories! Our thoughts go out to everyone. Know that Mom would have been there to share in his goodbyes if she had been able. Lots of love to all. Xo Lisa, Jackie, Doug, and Dave Ewing (Lynne´s crew)

Bruce was my family doctor my entire life. He delivered me and my brother Clayton and lived around the corner from us on Ferris Rd. I have fond memories of going to the Truscott house. He was gracious enough to open his home to us when we were sick and even let me ride his dog when I was a little boy :)

Not only did I see him in Toronto but we crossed paths on lake boshkung. I remember one summer he let me paint his cottage and earned me some pocket money.

Bruce was an amazing doctor, friend and neighbour and I will miss him!

I am saddened to hear of Bruce´ passing as he was such an important figure in my life from a very early age. Bruce was not only a close family friend of my parents and my aunt and uncle but our personal family doctor. Bruce was always there for me during my entire childhood, adolescent years, and into my adulthood. I trusted him deeply and I could always count on him. I will cherish my relationship with him and my deepest most heartfelt condolences go out to his family. He was a warm genuine soul who was a strong constant trusting person my entire life. I will miss him but will never forget him. He will be with me guiding me always. Rest in peace Bruce.

I send my sincere condolences to Bruce's daughters and family for your loss. I was deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Truscott's death and had not been aware of his medical condition when he retired from practice. He had been my physician for roughly 50 years, and while our relationship was strictly one of doctor and patient, over the years I developed a high regard for Bruce as an individual. He was extremely caring, and even made a house-call on the one occasion. A donation has been made to the Temmy Latner Center in Bruce's honour.

As our family Doctor, Bruce watched over Shelley and I and our two boys for over 40 years. Not only was he there for us professionally , but he was a true friend. As cottagers on Boskung Lake we had a special connection with Bruce and his family. SO many memories come to light at a time like this.... suffice it to say we will miss him and reflect on his legacy. Sincerely, Shelley and Paul Cherry

To Sarah, Becca, Martha and families-
We offer our condolences to you on the loss of your dad. He gave so much of himself to everyone he met/ his family, friends and relatives and his patients.
I first met Bruce at St. Mike´s Emerg. in 1970, where we had many memorable experiences, culminating when he met Peggy and married shortly after.
Our families spent many exciting times together at the cottage, weekend visits and attending the Messiah at Christmas.
Bruce was very kind, compassionate and he had such a sense of fun.
Rest in peace Bruce, we will miss you.
